I didn't grow up in Texas, but the one thing that has always baffled me since arriving for college (years ago now) is why Tech fans have such a Napoleonic complex. Seems like most of their fans spend more time trying to tear down other Texas schools instead of selling the merits of their own programs.

And, spare me the "packed house" always BS. I fondly remember sitting in Lubbock less than 10 years ago in a gym that had maybe 1,800 people in it.

Lubbock is twice as big as Waco and Tech is averaging less than 11,000 per home game this season.

But don't let facts get in the way.

Our Natty banner is really cute too. They should come visit Foster and see it up close.

Just for giggles, here was research for Tech Home Attendance (remember, this is REPORTED attendance, which is probably tickets sold, not actual attendance). Tech media guide states official capacity at 15,098.

Reported attendance at home games this year
12,930
10,443
11,336
10,640
10,280
7,219
8,940
10,048

Yeah, "packed house"!!!!!

The Bearcat guy might want to note that Cincy had 3,063 announced for a home game this year.

Bearcat boy may want to consider downsizing his gym too. They've barely averaged 8K fans for the past 10 years.

Most recent year ncaa published doc shows Bu's 9.4k avg attendance. So capacity is just under 2k less than their avg attendance. This was meant to drive huge demand and mitigate the weekday mediocre opponent games. Think low 8k would have been a better balance to fix that issue while accommodating major games.. attendance was there for good conference opponents and weekend games.

But it isn't Tcu, Smu, or Houston where they averaged 5k or less before they sized down.

It's pretty simple actually, they got rejected by every one of those other schools and had to settle for Tech.

I get that attendance is essentially sold tickets and not butts in seats and understand why it's that way, but there is a great article on the internet about Kentucky basketball and fabled Rupp Arena around 2019-2020 timeframe that acurately depicts what real college attendance is. It shows that actual scanned tickets for non conference games that year for Kentucky was something like 10-13K and around 15-18K for SEC games (with both segments reporting sold out attendance), and the concern UK's athletic administration was developing for continual downward trends in true fan attendance. The article went on to point out how infrequently Cameron Indoor, Assembly Hall, Mackey Arena, and a host of others are at true 100% butts-in-seat capacity, yet every fan thinks their school has packed houses as witnessed by the Tech goober in this thread.

I would have liked 8-8.5K, but it is what it is and I was pleasantly surprised that it actually looked bigger on TV than what I had seen in photos.

Just fix the damn camera angles and it's perfect from my standpoint.

Exactly right. Always thought it was confusing how the fans here referenced "but that isn't actual folks in seats." Just as you said.. it is literally like that everywhere. Nothing unique with this situation. Its like to like comparison.

9.4k is the quantifiable data, which is not bad at all. So the arena size doesn't reflect the exact same situation as Tcu or Houston who averaged less than 50% capacity at the time of their updates.

Im sure the revenue max calc probably came into play and Im not privy to that level of data within the bball program. Gut says 8k give or take would have probably been ideal from all perspectives as the avg ticket price wouldn't have deflated much v missed extra rev for 10+ conference games against prime opponents/weekend. 8k + or - just feels like the sweet spot but it isn't tiny bc of tiny crowds. I guess that is the main point.

Agree, the camera has to and I believe will (begrudgingly) be fixed. Only a few hundred thousand will go through the facility. Millions will be watching so obviously needs to be corrected.

I can understand it's more of a challenge today to get students and locals to the game, when every game is available on their phone. I have been holding off on ESPN+ but managed to see the game on YouTube. Assuming it's the same feed, didn't notice angles as much as the fact camera was a lot higher than at Farrell. Was a little distant but the advantage is seeing the whole court.

It's because they're a state school in a state with Texas and A&M. They'll never be as popular or well-respected as those two, so they try to flex on Baylor and TCU, which have both been more successful in most sports.

Maybe it's because our fanbase is rather small compared to other schools?

Tech logic is dumb.

Wouldn't they only be concerned with the doors at foster that allow a pizza to be delivered to a fan?

What will our average attendance per home game be this year, and next year, and all the years after that?

You have to remember one thing about tech grads. They are unable to count past 20 because pizza delivery drivers never carry more than $20 cash.

Maybe Tech "packs the house" more (whatever that means) because there literally there is nothing else to do for hundreds of miles. In Waco, there are other things to do and it's only a 2 hour drive to Aston or DFW. Lots of students will go home for the weekend. In weeknights, one would hope serious students anywhere would be studying. Yes, I know the redd add light is most students won't do that at night when the games are being played.
