I was frustrated that the open threes were not falling. I'm sure the players were frustrated also.

But the team played very well in other area to compensate and that was a pleasure to watch.

I'm thankful they won. How many times in the past with better Baylor teams and weaker Baylor teams have we lost this type of game. I'll answer that....plenty. They found a way to win on a lousy shooting day. And concerning the opponent, one comment the announcers made was that early in the season when OSU was losing they had a bunch of injury problems to their better players. Those players have been back in recent games. Don't know how much of this is true or excuses, but it is too early in conference play to label OSU as a "bad" team.

This!!
I went yesterday and boy was it frustrating to see missed 3 after missed 3. Especially because several were wide open looks. But we compensated in other areas. A W is all that matters. OSU is bad but they'll give some teams fits this year. Back home for 2 very winnable games Tuesday and Saturday night. Need electric crowds

Good point about OSU. However, relative to the rest of the conference they are near the bottom. OTOH, since conference play began yesterday everyone is either 1-0 or 0-1. That's all that matters now for conference standing.

The Positive Gestapo is very real, especially on the premium board.

The PG will mock and/or personally attack anyone who has an opinion that doesn't support the Baylor establishment. It's an obvious attempt to suppress any negative opinions. It starts with attacks and then goes to childish memes and gifs then moves to knuckleheads who high five each other for winning the internet by intentionally "bullying and triggering" those with legitimate points. There is very little debate on the point once the attacks begin. It's purposeful. Ironically they think this is somehow funny?? I assume it's mostly people directly associated with Baylor (not just an alum) with some die hard old school baptists.

It pisses me off but I care about Baylor sports and I don't back down to bullies so it is what it is. I try not to pick fights but it happens to someone on almost every thread on premium.

This isn't the premium board. And as best I can tell, none of the regular posters here are irrationally positive or dismissive of reasonable critique.

No one took issue with your post here because it was critical. The issue was that it was critical of a major strength of this team.

If you had worded your post better and made the distinction that you were talking only about yesterday's game, no one would have jumped on you. But without that distinction, the post was looked reactionary and ill-informed. You've clarified. I think most have accepted it. All is well.

Let's shoot better this week against BYU.

I've felt all year like this is a good team with a great ceiling. Hopefully we'll make it there by March. I really like the pieces. We'll just have to see how all those pieces continue to come together over the course of league play.

They didn't fight back against Michigan State and that was frustrating.

Grimes needs to play more.

Missi and Walter are worth the price of admission.

Like last year there is no great team this year and the Championship is wide open for all of the top teams, of which we are one.

And based on your ridiculous post there is def a Negative Gestapo.

See how that works both ways?

I hate to tell ya ..were gonna have a few more losses from teams you didn't even mention (BYU..Iowa State.. Oklahoma for possibilities) in addition to Houston and Kansas...

And we will still be in the mix for the conference championship. This conference as it does every year will beat up on each other.

You and JP need to relax and enjoy the ride. Makes life a lot better.

This is probably the biggest frustration with Jalen, I would have expected him to be a better driver by now. He can handle the ball relatively well and could get to the rim and at least get fouled, but he always seems to drive and kick out when he has a path to the rim. It's really a liability to not have your 3-4 taking it to the rim, especially when he is a good foul shooter.

The one downside of the national championship is that that became the team by which all others are compared/judged. Spoiler alert: This team isn't as good.

That doesn't mean you can't enjoy watching it compete and grow. I've had a lot of fun watching it do both so far this year.

I'm interested to see what Houston looks like once their schedule toughens up. They haven't been tested much, but the way they've dominated almost everyone they've played so far has been impressive.

In general, I agree with you, though. There are a lot of good teams right now, but not many great ones. Should be fun to see how it shakes out the next three months.

On another topic, our wins over Auburn, Florida and Seton Hall continue to look better and better. Auburn is now in the top five in the KenPom rankings, Florida just had a six-game winning streak snapped in a two-point loss to No. 6 Kentucky and Seton Hall has two top-10 wins.

I'm reserving judgment. They'll have a chance to prove exactly how good they are. But their KenPom profile is pretty damn impressive right now.

We will probably never have a team as good as the natty team. They were special. Now imagine what they would have been like had Freddie Gillespie had another year of eligibility!

It's possible that houston won't be tested much until the end of the month. That's the way their schedule is. February will be brutal for them.

They've still got Iowa State, TCU, Texas Tech, BYU, Kansas State and Texas this month. That's a pretty tough go in my book.

This conference is brutal. UCF and West Virginia are the only gimmes.

True and even those two might not be gimmes. I was thinking relative to our schedule and several others I've looked at. That's the Big 12 and has been for years.

I believe they've been tied deep into the second half with all three of the decent teams they've played. Sampson runs a hyper efficient pace game. It effective against all but the higher talent, tough teams. Most college teams don't have both so it works.

They play well as a team but would be the first in history to be as good as metrics suggest without even one nba guy on their roster (no, Cryer isn't an nba player). Never happened before but there is a first time for everything.

Covid year with portal would make sense as the time to pull it off. But even still 21,22, and 23 champs all had multiple pros

The one thing that can make up for a lack of pros is experience, and Houston's got a lot of that. Our 2021 team didn't have a single impact pro. Mitchell was a lottery pick, but he's seen his role shrink every season since he was drafted and will be lucky to secure a career as a journeyman defensive specialist at this point. And Jared Butler's been on three teams in three years as an end of-the-bench sub.

But what our 2021 team was was crazy old. Houston is similar with three seniors and two juniors among its top six minutes-getters.

I don't know that they're a great team because they haven't played enough good teams to know at this point. But I'm willing to entertain the possibility based on what they've done. I hope we beat them when we play them obviously, but Kelvin Sampson is a great coach and he's got a good college roster playing very well right now.

They failed their first real conference test.

Houston will likely learn quickly that the Big 12 isn't the AAC. You've got to show up every night in this league.
