Will he stay even though Grimes is out as OC?

Can he get immediate eligibility this spring semester, if someone would take him?

Otherwise why leave now?

Whenever someone says we have too many guards, wait...

Wonder if it might have more to do with next year than this one. If Jayden and Miro both return next year, with what I consider the best pure point guard in the country coming in next year, he didn't like his prospects.

Anyway, best of luck Dantwan, sorry it didn't work out here.

Surprised by the timing, but not by the decision as it was evident he wasn't going to get much playing time. I thought it would come after the end of the season but in the world of transfer portal maybe it does make more sense.

It seems like every November this Forum is filled with all of us talking about how great our depth is when we're pounding mid majors and playing 10-11 guys, but by mid-January there's really only 7-8 guys who truly contribute once conference time gets here.

Wish him the best and hope he does his homework to find the right match and school where he can get on the court more. Seems like he was always giving 100% and I appreciate that.

Once Miro passed him in the rotatation the writing was on the wall he would be gone. You can't blame him for being frustrated after redshirting a year and then not getting playing time. Leaving abruptly mid-season makes me think there was something more going on behind the scenes, maybe he voiced frustrations and it was creating team chemistry issues.

Bummer. I really liked Dantwan, his attitude last year as a RS, and the effort he brought this year. I'm sad for him that it didn't work out, and for us losing some depth that we may need later this season.

I understand transferring but timing is just so weird

Dude sat for a long time to learn. Showed some decent signs honestly. Probably feels like a lot of time wasted. Flag said he was the best defender on the perimeter last year in practice and I believe him.

Something seems off here but wouldn't be shocked if he gets run at a decent program. Hopefully that possibility of chemistry disruption isn't accurate, but again feels off.

These guys know the game. Grimes came in with defensive reputation so when he sees the perimeter defense getting worked Im sure he was dying to get run.

Yep, the clock is ticking for all these guys. They have a very limited window of opportunity to show what they can do so they can make bank, in Grimes' case a shot at an overseas career. I totally get why he was probably very frustrated in the situation he was in buried on the bench.

Am I the only one that feels we could possibly use him right now? I wouldn't want him taking Walter, love, little's minutes, but maybe take some of Nunn and Dennis minutes? Mostly Nunn.

What limited opportunities he got to play he looked pretty good to me. He was quick and able to drive to the basket, had a nice 3 point stroke and wasn't bad on the defensive end. The more Nunn continues to be a complete dud on both ends of the floor and the more both Dennis & Walter continue to be streaky and inconsistent at best, the more I tend to agree that we could've used him as the long season goes on.

We could definitely use him throughout the entire conference schedule and the timing of his departure almost seems like pouting (although I certainly don't know the whole story), but I'm not sure he would have done any better against K State's length on the top line. He would have struggled as much, if not more, than Dennis. However, what it would have done is allowed Drew to bring Dennis to the bench several times and let him get his head straight because Dennis was making some really bad decisions last night but there really was no other alternative but to leave him in. It's really frustrating because we have so many guards the past couple of years but seem to really struggle moving the ball. Nunn and Walter were no better.

The challenge with these mid mayor guys is they are playing in a tough physical Big 12. It will take time for them to transition. I wish we could have kept Grimes because he was in the system last year and practiced all year against our guys. He may not have been great but he had some experience in our system.

To southeastern lousiana. Maybe he can be "the man" there and put himself on the radar for a career overseas.

I'm happy for Dantwan. I think that was a smart move since he said his goal was to get a lot more playing time. As I said in another thread, I never understood the whole story behind Dale Bonner's transfer but if it was to get more minutes it was the wrong decision to seek another High Major program. He's getting basically the same number of minutes at Ohio St that he got here last year and he has 0 starts. I think Dantwan would have been in a similar situation if he had transferred to another High Major.

Dantwan has good skills in several areas and now he will likely have more court time to showcase them. And, hopefully it will help him earn a chance to play at the next level somewhere around the world eventually, which is what he said was his ultimate goal.

Is he "joining the team" to practice, or to play? I didn't think you could transfer mid-season and play. Does anyone Know?

Are there any transfer restrictions still on the books? Back in the first couple of decades of the 20th century, I remember reading about a Texas and Texas A&M football game where the star player made a deal and switched teams at halftime. Is that where were headed?

You can transfer at mid-season and play at another school -- see Nae'Qwan Tomlin who left Kansas St in December and is starting at Memphis now. I think what you're referencing is that there was (maybe still is) a rule that said you can't play for two schools in the same season. Tomlin never suited up for K State because he was suspended, whereas Grimes played for us. But there's been so many flip flops on NCAA rules in the past few months that I've lost track.
