Yep. I think Iowa St impresses me most in that they seem to be able to piece together some physical, hard nosed guys every year who weren't necessary superstars when they transferred in, but seem to play above their skill level when assembled as a team and mixed with young recruits.

Will be interesting to see how the Big 12 performs in the NCAAs. It's obviously gonna be the most competitive conference top to bottom, with an entire conference of "good" teams. In most years, I'd say that wouldn't get any of them very far in the NCAAs, but in a year where there really aren't any "great" teams, you just never know. If someone can get hot at the end of the year they could go deep.

Don't know if Self can turn this but they usually have the best adjustments over a season of anyone. Looking off so far.

Sampson has his group swarming but will see if they can carry to the road. Don't fully trust his offensive coaching

So looking like Texas Tech will take over sole 1st place in the Big 12 (pending outcome of K State - Ok State game).
K-State just took the lead on Oklahoma State. If they finish that one off, they'll be 4-1.

They've had a light schedule to start league play, but we're learning that no slate is light in this league.

Oklahoma St let it get away just like we did. Or, I guess you could also say K State may be good at closing home games out? It's amazing how many Big 12 games come down to 5 points or less.

This is the first time in a long time I can remember looking at a Self roster and just not seeing a ton of talent beyond the starting 4 (Adams, McCullar, Dickinson and Harris). If he can create separation between the Jayhawks and the rest of the league with that roster, he deserves Big 12 coach of the year.

Well, K State wins it 70-66.

Tech and K State in a tie for 1st.

As far as us, the good news is that I look at the two teams in first place and know we can play with one while being pretty sure we can play pretty even with the other in a few weeks.

And both HC's are part of Drew's coaching tree.

It's really weird seeing a Bill Self Kansas team with mediocre guards.

Agree. It's really weird just watching them and realizing how marginal they'd be if he hadn't been able to swoop in at the last minute and grab Dickinson. Otherwise, they have very limited offense.
