247 just updated their rankings and some key things to notice in our class are Jason Asemota has dropped 27 (!!!!) spots from 18 to 45 nationally, Rob Wright is now ranked as the #2 PG and 23rd nationally in the class after going up 8 spots from the last rankings, and lastly, VJ Edgecomb has gone up 2 spots to claim the spot as the #4 player and #1 shooting guard in the class of '24. Asemota dropping so much is an eye-grabber, but I think ultimately the commitment of VJ Edgecomb makes up for it along with Rob Wright consistently going up in the rankings.

This is doubly interesting because Asemota just averaged 30ppg at the Cactus Classic.

Did he get injured at some point possibly?

Has anyone seen Asemota play in person or a full game?
I've seen Wright his junior and senior year, and I can tell you he's the truth. Hopefully he has a great freshman year and career at Baylor.

I've watched part of a game of his - he's a defensive monster and can grab boards really well, extremely athletic, and he can create his own shot and can shoot from everywhere, but currently, it seems his strength to me is his mid-range shot and sometimes his three if he gets hot. I think he could be a one-and-done player but I'm hoping we can keep him for two years or more.

Isn't he toying with the idea of getting out of his NLI?

Where did you hear this? I'd wonder why.
I remember him saying he transferred in high school from Brewster to Hillcrest for playing time. Wonder if he doesn't see himself playing?

I don't think it's playing time, I believe it may be NIL related

It was mentioned in this topic, Grayson confirmed it but the staff is trying to keep him onboard:

I thought Asemota flipped to Bobby Hurley and Arizona St after signing with us in November? Did it not happen ?

Found a video of a full game of Asemota. #5 on the white team. In this game, he's very unimpressive. Absolutely no effort on D and doesn't take care of the ball or do anything well on offense. Has good height and length, but needs ton of improvement.
Heard someone on a different thread saying he could step into the Miles Bridges role as a freshman. ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!! We need someone from the transfer portal in that position unless we go with Loehner if he comes back.

Watch the game below:

Asemota is very talented offensively but is rail thin. He needs a lot more weight and muscle to withstand physical play of Big 12 basketball as a PF on both the offensive and defensive ends. He could probably play some as a 3, but he will likely spend a good amount of his freshman year on the bench as an occasional role player until his body develops no matter where he ends up.
