A lot of people on this board like to hate on Missi, but he really is an impressive big man, especially considering his age and being a true freshman. In fact, I'm not sure I can remember a big that Baylor has had that had this much of an impact as a true freshman - maybe Isaiah Austin. But the list is not long. Been very pleased with his performance, overall.

A lot of misplaced anger and frustration are aimed at both Walter and Missi. They are far from finished products but overall they have have been a net positive for our program. Our personnel struggles this year are due to swinging and missing on recent transfers who have been massive busts (Lohner, Grimes, Nunn). This has been both surprising and disappointing because CSD has had an elite track record with transfers in the past.

No one hates on Missi. They just rightly point out his inconsistency, physical weakness and defensive deficiency -- all products of being a freshman.

He's a talented kid and everyone has acknowledged as much. He's had games where he looks like a star, and everyone gets excited when he does. But he's not a great player and never will be in a Baylor uniform. That's where the frustration stems from.

A lot of people are tired of watching us rely extremely heavily on players who aren't physically, mentally or emotionally equipped to consistently make the impact we need them to make to be a contender in our conference and on the national scene.

It's not about any of these players individually. All are good kids and solid players. But none have been stars. And when you recruit these kids, they have to be stars or you end up with an assembly line of physically weak, emotionally fragile teams because none of these guys are around long enough to mature.

But this is my point. I believe focusing on his weaknesses (which are weaknesses that every freshman in America has) paints fans as having a spoiled attitude considering almost every school in America would love to have a freshman like Missi. We have been fortunate to have a lot of really good big men come through our program over the years and I think we take for granted what Missi is by only focusing on his deficiencies rather than realizing that we are a program that many are envious of and talents like Missi are why. Is he primed to be a leader on a championship team? No. Is he a testament to CSD and staff's ability to recruit and develop? Yes. Also, I don't think Missi is holding us back from being a contender in our conference or in the tournament down the line.

Also I have seen nothing that indicates Missi or Walter are emotionally fragile players. Both seem attentive in the huddle, hustle back on defense, are active when on the bench, celebrate their teammates, and don't seem to hang their head when shots aren't going in. Do they have some inconsistencies in their game? Sure. Do they need maturity in their bball iq? Yea, definitely. Do Freshman one and done's like them create value for our program and generate a lot of relevant press and attention? Yes. Will they be able to mature enough between now and March to make a run in the tournament? To be determined.

We discuss the weaknesses of all players. Freshmen aren't immune to that -- especially when they're starting, playing 20-plus minutes a game and being hyped to no end.

The only difference is freshmen typically have more and more pronounced weaknesses than their more experienced teammates.

I'm not going to take solace in any players' talent or potential or make excuses for any player's weaknesses when we're losing. All of these players were brought here to win. If they're not helping us do that, that's a problem. This program is well past the point of celebrating moral and recruiting victories. If those don't come with deep tournament runs, they're meaningless.

This is a results-oriented business, and the results have been lagging all fair, realistic and well established expectations for our program since the title run.

Sorry but Lohner has been a disaster. He is playing 10 minutes per game as a senior, and his playing time has dwindled even further since conference play began. He has shown no improvement since he arrived last year. He is so bad we can barely afford to give Bridges a breather. An upperclassman transfer like Lohner or Nunn needs to be an immediate impact player, and they are both barely playable. Missi and Walter take a lot of criticicsm, but despite their flaws they are at least viable rotation players.

I wouldn't put Lohner and Nunn in the same category. Nunn is a viable rotation player, he's just best used off the bench as a good team's fourth or fifth guard. Lohner is barely playable most games. He'll show flashes occasionally that make you think he could be useful as a 10-15 minute-per-game energy guy, but his lack of skill leaves you playing 4 on 5 when he's in most times, especially against quality competition.

Consensus around the country is that Yves Missi is a really good freshman by every standard except for posters on this board. If you read lists of the top freshman in America, he's on nearly every one. And I would disagree with you to some extent on whether or not results have been lagging. Sure, we have not made a deep tournament run since the championship (there have only been 2 tournaments since then). But we have more top 20 victories than any other program in America over the last 6 seasons, have won a Big 12 Championship, and have been awarded a number 1 seed.

Perception of our program is at an all-time high and it has not wavered once, regardless of the lack of a tournament run over the last 2 entire whopping seasons (which is really not that many). UCONN went through a 8 game stretch where they lost 6 or 7 of those games last year. We lost 3 in a row the year we won the championship. I'm not advocating that this team this year will win a national championship. I'm concerned about this team's ability to close out tight games and compete at the top of the Big 12. But I still think it's worth keeping in perspective that what we have are two really good freshman that most teams would kill for.

I don't care what that these guys are "really good freshmen" or what pundits think/say about them. I care whether they can consistently fulfill the roles our team recruited them to fill in a way that leads to victories. Among the one-and-done freshmen we've recruited, only Jeremy Sochan was up to that task.

All of the others played like freshmen, with all of the inconsistency, frustration and excuses that come with that. They were talented certainly. But none were capable of leading a team with Big 12 championship aspirations.

If we only go to the Sweet 16 or deeper a couple of times over the next 50 years, we've got much larger problems than I think. My expectations for our program are neither unfair nor unrealistic. I'm not going to be gaslit into believing otherwise, while watching programs in our own conference that we used to beat regularly field better, tougher and more experienced teams than we are with fewer advantages than we have.

I hear that our players are disgruntled about the BU fans and would like to put some of us into the transfer portal.

They also complain that the webcam angles on fans' home computers are messed-up, so they can't see all of us.

Can anybody confirm or deny?
