That should come with a season-long suspension, if not an outright dismissal. That was a straight up sucker punch and could have ended in serious disaster.
There is no room in sports for that kind of thing. I don't care how hard a guy is leaning on you or fouling you.

Hooten, in his postgame news conference, said he had not had an opportunity to review the incident or what might have led to it. He apologized to Liberty coach Ritchie McKay for Carpenter's actions, saying they were "not acceptable."
"That's not the way that we're going to do things here at New Mexico State University," said Hooten, who is in his first year overseeing a program looking to turn the page from hazing accusations and a deadly shooting last season.
Hooten expressed shock at Carpenter's actions, calling him "a really good kid." But he added, "There's just no room, no room for that in the game, at all."
Awful, awful look. And I agree, at a minimum should be a season-long suspension.

I may take a contrarian view here...of course there needs to be punishment..you have to control your emotions...
BUT..as there are in most cases ..I want to see if there were any mitigating factors...

2 games IIRC. Tech game was next to the last regular season game. We lost to UT at home without her in the finale (I was sitting in the floor bleachers next to the BU bench and she was a couple of rows in front of us; I have a picture of her eating pizza during the Pizza Hut pizza time). I think she was also suspended for the 1st round of the Big12 tournament.Stefano DiMera said:

I googled it. It was 2 games. One game from the Big 12 mandatory for fighting and Mulkey and Ian tacked on another game.
Dismiss him from the team and expel from the school. It's time a message is sent to all athletes at all levels. If I did that in public, I would be thrown in jail, likely lose my job, etc. No different here except they get a chance to start over and hopefully make better decisions...

Unless you had political connections. Many pols & rioters have yet to be punished.
However, point taken. I'm frustrated with the blatant injustice in America today.
