Say you're an NBA GM.

I was just thinking about that. I'd take Missi.

I felt the same way about Sochan when Brown was being touted as the lottery pick.

Walter is really talented, but there are some serious *****s showing in the armor during Big 12 play. Missi is going to be special IMO and he already plays a game that will make him a useful piece at the next level.

There are a lot more players who do what Walter does than there are 18-year-old big men with Missi's athleticism and coordination. And almost all of Missi's weaknesses can be improved upon with physical maturation and experience.

Hard choice because today's NBA is all about the 3 and D, and Walter can be an All-Star doing that, but Missi has such incredible intangibles that I would take him.

Hard choice.

Missi and not close.

Depends on need, but what team doesn't need an athletic 7 foot shot blocker?

I'll likely get flak. But I just don't see Walter doing much of anything in the league. He's not real athletic. He can't stay in front of anyone. And the dudes FG % for the year is like 38. I get that he's 18. But I'll be surprised if he's successful as a pro

Not a knock against Walter, but you can't teach height and you don't find tons of 7 footers with that kind of athleticism. Gotta keep remembering this kid has played organized basketball for less than 3 years. His upside is off the charts. I can find several who could give me what Walter can potentially give.

I like his discussion because I hate one and dones. All I can say is Walter and Missi don't kill us because they play within the game and don't try to do so too much. If they continue to play that way, we have a chance to go far.

We need Walter to get out of his shooting slump. I like that Walter plays within the team concept, but he's got to be a threat. We're not going to reach our full potential with him shooting 20 percent, especially if Love is out for any length of time.

Kinda feels like off night v butler. I always thought off night was better overall and deserved the POY award

Nailed it. Walter will be a solid pro. What he lacks in elite-level athleticism, he makes up for with good positional size and wingspan. He has all the intangibles to be a solid bench player. Unselfish, great work ethic, self-aware, and will defer to others. Role players like Walter need to show they can be pieces to supplement the star players at the next level. I am not at all worried about his shooting slump. He is likely pressing and it has become a mental hurdle. Eventually he will regain his confidence and his shooting percentages will regress to the mean (hopefully while still in a Baylor uniform).

Missi, on the other hand, has the potential to be an absolute superstar at the NBA level. He already has elite athleticism relative to *current* NBA players. And what I like the most about him is that he readily absorbs coaching and improves exponentially from one game to the next. He has the hunger, IQ, and work ethic to match his insane physical tools. Every game I say to myself, Missi just moved up a couple more spots in the first round.

My prediction by the time the real draft gets here I think Missi moves into the top 10 and Walter goes in the mid to late teens.

Nice hindsight opinions. I don't remember these comments before the Holidays when I said I thought Missi would go ahead of Walter no matter how high Walter goes. Or, when I said he reminds me of Olajuwon as a Freshmen. Nice to see appreciation for what we are witnessing and may never witness in a Baylor uniform again in our lifetimes.

Most years there's not a single 7-foot recruit in the whole country with amazing athleticism.

Not sure who this is directed towards, but I have thought for quite a while that Missi will go ahead of Walter.

And the Olajuwon comp is still absurd. Completely different kinds of players.

Walter doesn't seem to be able to create a shot off the dribble - seems like he was better at that early in the season - maybe has lost some confidence - but right now - I don't see Walter as a 1st round pick but I'm probably wrong because of this draft on potential thing.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Its Missi for me. Simply because the pool of players his size that can do what he does is smaller than that of Walter. JW is going to be good. Both have a high ceiling. But if Missi keeps developing he could be a star.

People said the same thing about Keyonte and look at him. In his last 4 he's averaging 16.5 PPG, 4.8 RPG, 2.3 APG, 53.3 FG%, 40.0 3P%. Some guys just translate much better to the NBA than they do college, and I think Jakobe will be similar to Keyonte in that aspect.

With the way Missi has looked so far and the fact that he's only been playing for a couple of years I wouldn't doubt he does go higher than Walter as teams often like to draft on potential

What's the over/under on NBA scouts at the game Saturday?

Missi is about to get some graduate school training, but I am intrigued with the matchup.

Walter is definitely different than Keyonte in that regard. I remember Key trying to force shots and try to takeover a game even though he was cold. Walter still brings some value when he's off but if he can get hot again, watch out!

Missi.

We're seeing him evolve and improve every week. He should still be a senior!

Jakobe is gonna bounce back and win us all over. He's improved defensively and appears to be unrattled even when he's not having a great night shooting. Intangibles!

Tell me you are a narcissist without telling me you are a narcissist....

You turned a discussion about two of our rising starts into a discussion about yourself. Way to go.

Missi, and it's not really close right now. I was not aware he had good ball handling skills until the past couple weeks. A rarity for his size and he'll only get better.

Plus Missi can play offense and defense well. Walter is offense only.

Finally, Missi is able to get "easy" buckets with relative ease if the lob is halfway decent. Walter has to work more for his points.

The intention was to say this conversation took place 2 months ago and these opinions weren't shared at that time. It was not to make it about me. I do not need anyone's else's approval.

I bet he ends up in the top 10. He just keeps getting better and better and showing more and more skill to go with his insane athletic/physical talents. The kid is special.

It would be great for Baylor recruiting. What outstanding HS player wouldn't want to play for a program with a first rounder 4 years in a row, & 3 of those lottery picks?

We would all like it even more if those talents would translate more effectively to winning Big 12 games. It will probably take time for Drew to adapt his style for using one-and-done's more.

Missi is the most talented player by far in the big 12. I've seen most of the teams and it isn't close. Maybe baby dirk at Iowa st but I don't think so.

He's not the best player yet because he's so young but the improvement has been special. In a year or two he will be wildly good.

Unfortunately to bear2's point it won't be with us.

Depends on the team. If I have a great shooter like a Curry or Trae I need an enforcer and that's Missi. If I need a shooter that's Walter.
The other biggest thing with me in my fake GM decision making process between these 2 players is how soon will he be able to contribute at next level.

3 years from now we'll look back and say Walter. But 2024-5 season Missi can play big minutes now.

Which is normal for a rookie guard with a high usage rate. He's also consistently top 6 in the ROTY race on any list. He's the 2nd if not the best point guard in that class. You can't just judge his whole season based off his shooting percentage.
