They had the same (legitimate) gripe when it was at the AAC in Dallas. We can't avoid KC, but it would be nice if they would at least rotate.IowaBear said:

The Texas schools screwed the pooch when it was held in Dallas. All we/they had to do to make the AAC a more attractive location for the Big 12 tournament was show up. But attendance was pretty dismal at the AAC compared to KC.parch said:They had the same (legitimate) gripe when it was at the AAC in Dallas. Hardly. Manhattan is 1.5 hours away and Ames is about 3 hours away. So basically, same as Waco and Austin to DallasIowaBear said:

if u have ever been, u would know that Iowa State actually shows up stronger than ku fansGoodOleBaylorLine said:Hardly. Manhattan is 1.5 hours away and Ames is about 3 hours away. So basically, same as Waco and Austin to DallasIowaBear said:

Lawrence is a suburb of KC.
It is a home game for exactly one team - KU
it's in KC because the city of KC invests millions every single year to make it the best conference tourny in the country year in and year out. KU being 45 mins away isn't why it's there. Okc & Dallas locations didn't come close.GoodOleBaylorLine said:
It's great ISU shows up, but having fans at the game does not make the arena any closer to the school. It is not in any way the "literal definition" of a home game
That's like saying UT playing at UH is a home game because they have more fans there.
Also, TBF my original post was probably more aggressive than I intended. I get sick of KU bball getting such preferential treatment and having the tournament permanently fixed in KC is an example of that. It is great that ISU travels. Maybe they'd like to go to OKC or Cincy or any of the other cities in the B12 footprint some time. Phoenix in early March wouldn't suck
I don't know. After looking into it, attendance has been on a downward trajectory. Three of the 5 least attended B12 tournaments have been in KC over the last 5 years (not including 2021 covid year, which would make it 4 of 5 if you include it), and attendance has not topped 100,000 in KC since 2011. Tourney held in both Dallas and OCK have exceeded 100,000 (3 out of 5 times actually).ScottS said:

The city lives for this event. It's all in for that week. They care about nothing else during that time. Power and light district next door blows the area around the aac out of the water. And all of downtown embraces the tourny. The conference knows who is gonna support their goals and that's KC until proven otherwise. Go to the tourny and u will realize why it's the best place to host it.
KU fans would out attend us if in Dallas and we all know it. We can't even fill 7k seats in a new arena on a Saturday vs a rival, our fans won't even travel from Dallas to Ft Worth to a game vs tcu. We ain't doing anything different for a tourny in kc. We didn't even take over dickies arena for the 2022 playoff matches.
It's in KC because it's the best spot. We don't lose every single year there because it's not in Dallas.

please bold where I mentioned overall attendance numbers being the driving factor of city location. I'll wait for that.GoodOleBaylorLine said:T-REX said:it's in KC because the city of KC invests millions every single year to make it the best conference tourny in the country year in and year out. Yet average attendance at AAC and Ford far, far exceeded average attendance at T Mobile. That is a fact unlike your rant.
well Iowa State wasn't really anything special before 2010 so hard to say the tourny location impacted that. KU also one it in Dallas and in OKC so they didn't really do much much worse outside of kc actually.GoodOleBaylorLine said:

You will note that another common theme is that KU and ISU do much, much worse when it is not in KC
Vegas would be a good spot because we'll it's Vegas and the infrastructure is unmatched from an entertainment standpoint.Baylorbears111 said:
I don't remember what the tourney was like at AAC.
But I do remember that the OKC tournament was nice for being centralized in the conference.
I'm a strong advocate for KC as the tournament host, but I do think we will see some rotation between it and Vegas. If we ever take on additional eastern teams, I'm curious if Orlando would be a good hosting destination.
Did u go to the game last night?GoodOleBaylorLine said:
Silly me. I thought the point of a tournament was for people to watch the tournament and players to play in front of their fans. I didn't realize it was for the local citizens to feel better about the fact they live in a dying area of the country (while not attending the tournament)
Lot's to do in Orlando.T-REX said:Vegas would be a good spot because we'll it's Vegas and the infrastructure is unmatched from an entertainment standpoint.Baylorbears111 said:

I could see Orlando being a good spot possibly but not entirely sold on that as then we give a 70k enrollment school a tourny in town. Yall want to talk about being too close to ku and isu???? Ucf dwarfs them in enrollment lol.
Also not sure what else there is to do besides the theme parks really. Tourny needs to be in a spot with entertainment options within short walking distance to keep the fans all engaged
We play Houston on a Saturday before ku. Also not sure what a superfan is. I just go to games. How is that super?GoodOleBaylorLine said:
Nope. I can only get to weekend games. Next one is KU.
Go ahead and head you off of that's not relevant in any way to where the tournament might be held. I get you're a super fan, so that's your trump card. But it's really not. In fact, it's a good reason to move the tournament around so people can get to it.
I've seen a ton of fat people in Florida actuallyBaylorbears111 said:Lot's to do in Orlando.T-REX said:Vegas would be a good spot because we'll it's Vegas and the infrastructure is unmatched from an entertainment standpoint.Baylorbears111 said:

It has theme parks of all kinds, aquariums, shopping, plenty of city parks, NASA. Since it is a decently sized city with tons of tourist travel, they have plenty of restaurants.
The other nice thing about Florida is that it is very skinny. If you wanted to go to the beach for a day, it is only 45m-1hr away.

I was in KC on business a few weeks back. Stayed at Marriott downtown. Day or night, it's a ghost town. So events like this are huge for their local economy I'm sure. Oh, Jack Stack is some good KC BBQ.
