And as usual, KU will have home court advantage even though they would be a 5 seed.

This is my only gripe about KC… it's home games for KU, KSU and ISU

They had the same (legitimate) gripe when it was at the AAC in Dallas. We can't avoid KC, but it would be nice if they would at least rotate.

The Texas schools screwed the pooch when it was held in Dallas. All we/they had to do to make the AAC a more attractive location for the Big 12 tournament was show up. But attendance was pretty dismal at the AAC compared to KC.

As the league has shown with both its football championship and basketball tournament, it will go and stay wherever it draws a crowd. Texas fans didn't do their part.

Hardly. Manhattan is 1.5 hours away and Ames is about 3 hours away. So basically, same as Waco and Austin to Dallas

Lawrence is a suburb of KC.

It is a home game for exactly one team - KU

It's great ISU shows up, but having fans at the game does not make the arena any closer to the school. It is not in any way the "literal definition" of a home game

That's like saying UT playing at UH is a home game because they have more fans there.

Also, TBF my original post was probably more aggressive than I intended. I get sick of KU bball getting such preferential treatment and having the tournament permanently fixed in KC is an example of that. It is great that ISU travels. Maybe they'd like to go to OKC or Cincy or any of the other cities in the B12 footprint some time. Phoenix in early March wouldn't suck

The conference tourney simply does not matter. That said, it will be amazing having a much bigger tournament this year and even bigger next year. Great wear to gear up for the dance...we are way overdue for a strong showing so...while I don't need us to win the whole thing, it would be very nice to see us at least get to Friday's semis again.

it's in KC because the city of KC invests millions every single year to make it the best conference tourny in the country year in and year out. KU being 45 mins away isn't why it's there. Okc & Dallas locations didn't come close.

The city lives for this event. It's all in for that week. They care about nothing else during that time. Power and light district next door blows the area around the aac out of the water. And all of downtown embraces the tourny. The conference knows who is gonna support their goals and that's KC until proven otherwise. Go to the tourny and u will realize why it's the best place to host it.

KU fans would out attend us if in Dallas and we all know it. We can't even fill 7k seats in a new arena on a Saturday vs a rival, our fans won't even travel from Dallas to Ft Worth to a game vs tcu. We ain't doing anything different for a tourny in kc. We didn't even take over dickies arena for the 2022 playoff matches.

It's in KC because it's the best spot. We don't lose every single year there because it's not in Dallas.

I don't know. After looking into it, attendance has been on a downward trajectory. Three of the 5 least attended B12 tournaments have been in KC over the last 5 years (not including 2021 covid year, which would make it 4 of 5 if you include it), and attendance has not topped 100,000 in KC since 2011. Tourney held in both Dallas and OCK have exceeded 100,000 (3 out of 5 times actually).

And Yorkman likes to shake things up.

Yet average attendance at AAC and Ford far, far exceeded average attendance at T Mobile. That is a fact unlike your rant.

please bold where I mentioned overall attendance numbers being the driving factor of city location. I'll wait for that.

Or you could simply realize the tourny hasn't been outside of kc since 2009 so any attendance numbers for another location are 14 years or older while also not ignoring the drastic overlay downward trend of in person attendance for sporting events across country that began b4 covid but was drastically impacted by covid and the much easier tv access to watch events. Attendance is not the primary factor for where you host a tourny.

Just go tonthe tourny this year and u will see if 5 seconds why it's a perfect place for basketball. Just accept the fact that Dallas and okc are not basketball cities nor are they located in basketball states. The Midwest bleeds basketball. That's why it's there. It's about way more than what happens on the court. It's about everything going on outside the arena all week long and nothing beats the atmosphere in KC.

I don't remember what the tourney was like at AAC.

But I do remember that the OKC tournament was nice for being centralized in the conference.

I'm a strong advocate for KC as the tournament host, but I do think we will see some rotation between it and Vegas. If we ever take on additional eastern teams, I'm curious if Orlando would be a good hosting destination.

well Iowa State wasn't really anything special before 2010 so hard to say the tourny location impacted that. KU also one it in Dallas and in OKC so they didn't really do much much worse outside of kc actually.

Yes, it makes it easier for their fans to travel but nothing is actually keeping baykor fans or tcu or anybody else from also showing up just like those fans do. Buy a ticket like they do and go. Let's stop making excuses for terrible play in the tourny

Silly me. I thought the point of a tournament was for people to watch the tournament and players to play in front of their fans. I didn't realize it was for the local citizens to feel better about the fact they live in a dying area of the country (while not attending the tournament)

Vegas would be a good spot because we'll it's Vegas and the infrastructure is unmatched from an entertainment standpoint.

I could see Orlando being a good spot possibly but not entirely sold on that as then we give a 70k enrollment school a tourny in town. Yall want to talk about being too close to ku and isu???? Ucf dwarfs them in enrollment lol.

Also not sure what else there is to do besides the theme parks really. Tourny needs to be in a spot with entertainment options within short walking distance to keep the fans all engaged

Nope. I can only get to weekend games. Next one is KU.

Go ahead and head you off of that's not relevant in any way to where the tournament might be held. I get you're a super fan, so that's your trump card. But it's really not. In fact, it's a good reason to move the tournament around so people can get to it.

Lot's to do in Orlando.

It has theme parks of all kinds, aquariums, shopping, plenty of city parks, NASA. Since it is a decently sized city with tons of tourist travel, they have plenty of restaurants.

The other nice thing about Florida is that it is very skinny. If you wanted to go to the beach for a day, it is only 45m-1hr away.

We play Houston on a Saturday before ku. Also not sure what a superfan is. I just go to games. How is that super?

Also kc is extremely accessible. Unless u live in dfw or in okc, as those 2 options are what yall keep screaming for, you have to travel to attend the tourny. A flight to kc from Dallas is like an hour and pretty cheap. Hotels are also cheap. Don't need a rental car if staying downtown. Dining options are cheap. Very accessible location for any fan really. Cheaper than doing the same activities in Dallas around the aac. Very glad that kc is an extremely accessible location for any fan to attend of they are willing to get off their couch.

KC is awesome and if you disagree then you are wrong. Glad it's staying there for a while.

To give a specific example supporting IowaBear's comment about attendance in KC,I was at a WBB final between BU(a Sheila Lambert team)and ISU.We had dozens of fans in attendance,ISU had THOUSANDS.It reminded me of how Arkansas fans packed Reunion Arena during SWC tournaments.I was Faculty Athletics Rep from 2001to 2013 and attended the Big 12 tournaments in KC,OKC and Dallas for the FAR meetings and to watch games.KC was the best host,Dallas#2 and OKC third.KC does love having the tournament and it shows(as T-Rex said).

In terms of attendance not geography. He's focused on the latter. However the crowd is what matters in athletic competition.
