1. Gonzaga has a very experienced and balanced team and is a title contender. They had a great crowd.

2. Baylor is inexperienced, but crazy athletic and oozing with potential.

3. Fraschilla was right, Wright is a player. He is the best pure point guard running a team I have seen at Baylor. Can make all the plays.

4. Edgecombe will be a problem in a couple of months.

5. Omier is really good and is going to help this team tremendously.

6. If Love becomes available that will also help this team.

7. This is the quickest team I think I have ever seen (not just Baylor team).

8. Realistically we need to press and fall back into zone on defense. This team is not going to develop into a top-notch man to man defense. The younger players have the aptitude, but not the experience. The older players don't all have the aptitude.

9. This is going to be a fun season and a fun team and Drew has a ton to work with. I don't think anyone will want to see us in the Tournament.

Which player on the roster is going to be the number 1 pick in the NBA draft this year?

We need to scratch you #6 off the list. Just not reliable for the team to count on for the year. Plug him in as a role player..

I disagree. He was our best player when he went out last year. He could be again this year. I hope he gets back to full strength.

#3 - can we get a little bigger sample size first?

You gotta chill. They're quick but nothing historic. They also have very poor defensive fundamentals and our switching scheme is out of whack.

I agree Wright will be very good in time

Victor Wembanyama sounds like a plausible choice

Right. Especially since we have had an elite line of PGs come through under CSD, starting with Tweety. It's okay to be excited about Wright though, I think he is special and will carry the torch forward.

My reference to Wright was in terms of his ability to run a team and run an offense and find good looks for his teammates.

Multiple players went right past Gonzaga defenders.

This team cannot play the defense the coach's assigned them to play and Drew needs to switch this team to zone. It makes no sense having a scheme whereby a 6'5" true freshman guards a 6' 11" post while isolated in the post.

Drew said on his radio show that we had 4 players that got muscle cramps...said he had never seen that before.

That's over half the rotation.

Cramps aren't the explanation why we had 6-1 and 6-3 guards trying to defend 6-9 and 6-10 posts.

I somewhat agree with the cramp issue. To me it appeared Zags cramped our style at every turn.

Or maybe our short guards got cramps in their necks from looking up all night at the 6-10 guys they were trying to guard on switches.

It is a major coaching problem, not simply a roster issue. The roster has had a lot of holes but there are 30+ coaching staffs across the country could get this group to a top 50 defense man or zone.

Nearly everyone is new including the staff so I'll wait but make no mistake, our defensive coaching is severely lacking. Hope they get it turned around, not giving up on them so early but need huge improvement

I think one thing people have downplayed is the significance and impact of losing multiple guys who are now successful Division I head coaches from our staff. It's really hard to replace the level of coaching talent that we've lost the past five years.

It's even harder when you make nepo hires from your past teams and friends instead of swallowing pride and going out and getting experienced assistant coaches that will force you to grow as a HC and have specialized in something like defense. I love Drew but his hiring decisions post Natty really leave a lot of questions to be answered.

Do we have starters that are injured or something? I did not watch the game, but it sure seems that we start almost every basketball season playing horribly and have to hope for major improvement, whereas other blue bloods come out of the gate kicking butt.

I agree with this but it's now time to get it straight. The defense has been ridiculous for years now.

Turnover could explain being a 45-50 type defense after being top 25 several years straight. But 80-100 ranked defense, points to a huge coaching deficit.

The footwork, fundamentals, court awareness, and sporadic effort (on D) are all things they've well below avg in for several years. Time to get it straight

I've thought about it and I think 2022 took something out of Drew and the staff. We were on track to win the national title (repeat) and the roster fell apart late. Energy has been sucked out since.

Obviously losing Tang hurt badly and we haven't had an energetic teacher in charge of D since.

I know we won a National Championship with a No Middle defenseā€¦but that team had multiple tremendous No Middle defenders. Most teams don't and this team doesn't. Accept what we have and play to this teams strengths. That means ZONE.
