Can you asses Nunn?
Nunn is a good, not great, two guard who happens to be the only healthy player on this roster who is a consistent threat to hit a 3-pointer at the moment.

He's also an active, albeit inconsistent defender.

He's a better player than he's given credit for being by some here but not dynamic enough to be a No. 1 or 2 scoring option on a good team.

But we knew all of this before the season. Nunn is doing exactly what anyone who watched him last year would expect him to do.

It's Roach who needs to up his game. He was brought in to be an impact player, and he has only occasionally been so this year. For this team to reach its potential, it needs Roach and Omier to be consistent sources of leadership and, especially, production. Omier brings it every night. We need Roach to do the same.
Nunn has always been an inconsistent player, but the issue this year is that he's been a consistent no-show in games against high major competition. Yeah, he's averaging nearly 11ppg, but that's been largely on the back of big performances against scrubs.

Last year, he was inconsistent, but he had chunk games against big-time opponents (27 vs OU, 20 vs WVU, 18 vs KU, 16 vs ISU, etc.) mixed in with his more muted outputs.

This year, he's averaging 8ppg against P5 comp, with his only real standout game coming against Arkansas, where he scored 16 points on 6-13 shooting (4-7 from deep). The only other games where he's scored double digits was 12 vs St. John's and 10 on Saturday against ASU. Granted, both were sub-40% shooting nights.

We could use a big night from him tonight. That's for sure.

Without his clutch free throws at the end of the game the other night, we lose. So I'm going to call the Arizona State game a success for him.

If he's giving us 8-10 points per game, he's largely doing his job. He's literally never been much more than that at any point in his collegiate career.

Nunn is a good 3 point shooter when he has time to do his little rhythm dribble first. He does not shoot a great % from 3 when it's pure catch and shoot and when his shot is rushed, which happens against better defenders. He also struggles to drive and draw fouls against longer, more athletic teams. He tries to launch himself into the paint but gets his stuff blocked. So it makes sense that he generally struggles to produce against the better teams.

Nunn has been really poor against higher D1 competition this year. The numbers (including shooting %'s) you're looking at are driven almost completely by games against soft competition. This was a major complaint last year and he turned it around later in the conference season. Hopeful he can do it again this year.. but he has really struggled.

I agree on Roach.. his percentages are way off his last year at Duke. If he can get this shot back his numbers should improve. Not playing off McCain and Proctor might be impacting that.

Weirdly, he's one of the few players whose shot is seemingly better when contested. I thinks he's thinking too much about running the offense and not just scoring. Another reason Wright should start running the offense from the get go.

The point of this thread is no longer an issue.

He played well today, but as you and I have been saying, starting him doesn't solve this team's myriad problems. Today's game was the ultimate example of that.

Yeah that's my point. Wrights a good player. Him starting wasn't going to make this team better as 82 magically believed. The issues go a lot deeper than whether or not Rob Wright starts

I was agreeing with you. You and I are pretty much on the same wavelength with this team and our program's current trajectory.

I hate when we agree! Haha kidding, just another reminder that hell does freeze over.
