Has steadily developed into one of the better game analysts in college basketball. He was great on the Marquette vs Iowa St game and even better today with Aggie vs. Tech.

It's always a good thing when a good man or woman gets to make money doing what they truly love doing.

I don't have a problem with John, it is Haller that irritates me. According to him, none of us have ever heard that starting with the 5th foul in the quarter for the women you get two free throws and that every refereeing team is one of the best.

You still holding John Wheeler against him?

I bet somewhere there's a picture of us together.

I've frankly never understood all the John Morris hate. No, he's not the greatest broadcaster of all time and yes, he has occasional gaffes (pretty sure there aren't many live event broadcasters that don't), but all in all I feel he's done a good job over a lot of years of being the voice of Baylor sports. We could do worse.

I'm with you. Never understood all the hate either. But then again, I don't get all the hate for Joe Buck either.

No hate just annoys me with his everything is nice attitude and combined with haller just bring on Mayberry. Nunley does an awesome job so Morris is not a grating. And Morris on radio for football games is downright awful. He tells you one thing then has to change it way to often. Would love for McClure to become the voice of Baylor.

"All the John Morris hate"?

IMO It's like 5 people. Small group anyway.

The other 200,000+ Baylor fans fall between love and uncertainty.

But I do agree with your bigger point. We are lucky to have John Morris.

The issue isn't whether we could do worse. It's whether we could do better, which we certainly could. Way better, in fact. So, why don't we?

Please explain your expertise in his area. I've worked in the business. Me and a bunch of others with some clue on the subject strongly disagree.

He is simply acceptable, expertise (in what, you speak publicly? You run A/V?) doesn't really matter, but thank you for posting that clip. What a throw.

Seemed clear. Expertise in how we could do better. One must understand the unique nature of in house broadcasters to know this. I'm interested in hearing more. I worked in sports broadcasting for 15+ years in various roles. Plenty know more than me but I know a few things. Doing better than John Morris considering all of his responsibilities is possible maybe but not likely.

Morris and Nunley are really good as a team. If you don't think that is true, listen to 90% of other schools announcing teams and you will appreciate what Baylor has.

Truly, John Morris is a class act and a fantastic representative of Baylor. But that alone does not make him the best play by play announcer. I've listened to John ever since he took over from Frank Fallon. For me, as long as you can visually see the games John is describing, there's no problem following the game, obviously.
If you cant see what he's calling....he has always been hard to follow.

I love John Morris but totally admit that I'm frustrated at him at times when listening to football games. He takes way too long to say what just happened and often doesn't do the best job at describing what happened. He also does put lipstick on a pig sometimes when things aren't going well.

But when things are going well he has a clear and genuine excitement in his voice that I really love. Listening to him on RG3 to Terrance Williams, the fourth down stop in the B12 title game, or the national championship call were all such pure moments of elation.

Exactly this, a close family member of mine who loves college athletics but went blind. I've grown to appreciate what's important in play by play Morris is better than the absolute worst who just ramble about not the actual game. But he does a poor job giving you a good consistent sense of what the play looks like, down and distance, and things like time. Morris is much better on TV than radio, his main duty.

I wouldn't trade him because goodness so so so many are bad even with some of the biggest programs out there.

While I agree with your 2nd paragraph, I hear many P x P announcers who have every bit as much clear and genuine excitement in those moments. Someone who would know very nearly where the ball's going to be spotted for the next play, wouldn't have to be frequently corrected about points of the game by the color commentator, and somebody who could describe a running TD play a little more cogently than merely "and he's into the end zone!" Up the middle, off tackle, around the edge, where? And I'm always intrigued at how so many insist on finding someone worse, not better, to compare with. Any hunter or target shooter knows the shot never hits higher than the aiming point. "Worse" is the comparative degree of "bad," not "good."

I'm speaking as one Baylor fan who never sees games JM is announcing. I'm sure he's a great guy. There are lots of great, green-bleeding guys in the Baylor family.

He honestly might be the best in college, he's really really good. Feels like I'm watching a game live with him. The only problem is I try to avoid listening or as watching as many UT games a possible
