If only Drew didn't recruit Freshman we wouldn't have the humiliation of them leading us.

Where was this energy Sunday? Or in Tucson? Or Ames? What about Storrs?
Why do you only show up after wins?
Why did we lose Sunday? You told anyone who would listen the only reason the bears were losing games was because Rob Wright didn't start.
Should we expect 30 pieces going forward from VJ?
Will the Bears now win the B12?

The 3 freshmen scored our first 20 points.

I believe the freshman are answering your question. And for the record one of them didn't play against Connecticut.

The freshman are answering what question? We're headed for the NIT barring a turnaround. I realize some of you care more about Baylor freshman getting drafted than Baylor actually winning ball games. (You fall squarely in this category)
You promised everyone starting Rob Wright was the answer to Baylor's problems. Please state their record since Rob entered the starting the lineup? You enjoy talking out of your ass and making incredibly exaggerated statements hoping to look intelligent. Lucky for you some posters believe the bull**** you spew.

Shall lead them to what exactly? This team is as likely as not to miss the tournament.

The victory laps being run here the last couple of weeks are ridiculous. We're 2-2 in our last four games with a disastrous home loss to TCU, a come-from-behind home win over a terrible Kansas State team, a solid road win over an talentless Utah squad and a loss to a middling and unathletic BYU team.

I have trouble getting super excited about how any individual player is performing given those circumstances.

I like Edgecombe and Wright. Both are good young players. But this team is a giant disappointment, and neither of those guys is consistently good enough to help this group overcome its myriad roster issues.

One of them will be gone next year and the only thing we'll have to show for his time in Waco is another high draft pick and a largely meaningless postseason award -- neither of which matter to me when they're not attached to team success.

It's certainly not VJ's fault we suck, but we suck nonetheless. I generally save my victory laps for actual victories.

I think having a player as talented as VJ and another freshman as good as Wright yet still managing to be completely mediocre is fairly embarrassing.

It's actually pretty common. LSU had a couple of stud freshmen when Ben Simmons was there and missed the tourney, Kentucky has frequently disappointed with excellent freshmen, and Rutgers this season is currently on the outside of the tourney looking in with 2 of the top 4 projected picks in this year's draft. Arkansas's disappointing season is further evidence that having 2+ stud freshmen doesn't guarantee you'll even field a mediocre squad.

It's all about the construction around the freshmen and the role they are asked to play. It's becoming quite evident that we screwed the pooch on roster construction this season, since two injuries have effectively tanked this squad's potential, and with the roster imbalance between front and back court, I'm not sure that we'd be performing at the level we're accustomed to even if Roach and Love had been able to stay healthy.

Agree with all that. Plenty of examples of it happening, but when it does it is a result of a failure of overall roster construction.

Agree re: Roach. We've seen enough of that to have a good idea. I think Love would've lifted our performance, but it was not going to be an elite team no matter how you slice it, and I don't know if it was ever realistic to expect to get a long season of productivity out of Love.

We have plenty of time to right the ship. Getting Roach back would help. So would having Orchad not be in deep foul trouble. I like a lot of what I see. I've been vocal about what I don't like, which was Wright not starting and our not playing zone defense. This is never going to be a great man to man defensive team and our record will improve if the coaches will accept that. The freshman are what gives us a shot this season.

Good point on Rutgers but their talent is borderline unplayable outside of those guys. With Omier, our freshman should be enough to make the tournament though. Rutgers has nobody close to that level.

If Love was healthy and integrated we beat Tcu, BYU, and possibly UConn. I don't think they'd be great but Im pretty certain it would make a difference. The comp we've played simply hasn't been that good outside of Iowa st and Tn.

But I agree roster construction is poor. Even still, Anything less than an 8 seed is a massive failure by the staff and huge disappointment for the program.

I think I agree zone "might" be better. But that fact is absolutely an indictment on the staff.. wild they can't coach up a man defense.

Cryer was the worst man defender in all D1 when with us and now he's mediocre. Pure coaching

I don't know what the staff knew about Love or when or what the expectations for him were. It is fair to say that if he were healthy and playing to his potential(we have seen glimpses in the past; he can score), the team would be better and better in close games.
Bad break
IF…..can be a curse word in sports

Our expectations aren't high enough. There's no on-court accountability at all.

Guys are allowed to make the same mistakes over and over again without any sort of repercussions.

This year is a little different because we don't have the bodies to bench players. But this has been an issue for years and is not unique to this year's team.

Outside of the 2020-22 teams, we've pretty much always been really bad in man defense. And a big part of that is that there is no program standard for intensity or discipline on that end of the floor.

We had a few players during those elite years that held themselves to an elite standard. But that standard left when they did.

Very well said. Butler, Davion, Vital, and Teague were just ultra competitive, self motivated guys. Special.

A lot of guys need that structure and guidance initially and then they grow into leading the culture. Looking more and more like we were very fortunate to have 4+ all-in razor focused guys. Full credit to the staff for bringing them in but that was in the old system.

I've heard Self, the Iowa st coach, and Sampson all mention some guys who didn't have it early on who eventually became major leaders for the team. Those coaches stayed on them hard to mold them into what they became.

We shouldn't focus on high level freshman…WRONG…They haven't shown they can do it against high level competition…WRONG…Starting Wright would fix problems…RIGHT!
