We should catch a Mavericks game tonight. Oh, they're not in.

I haven't watched any of this year's playoffs and likely won't. But the NBA playoffs have always been good. The problem with that league is that you only see any defensive intensity and urgency for one month a year and have to endure major sports' worst regular season to get there.

MLB's 162 games says hi.

You just don't like baseball. But the game still looks -- and is largely played -- the same in April and May as it is in October. That the regular season is long is only a drawback to those who don't care for the sport in the first place.

The same cannot be said for the NBA, which is a terrible product until the playoffs. It's not even worth watching until the postseason.

Another incredible 20+ point comeback and buzzer beater by Indiana last night.

NBA playoffs turning into NHL playoff like excitement.

I love the NBA and always have. Always will. However, I wish more of the regular season felt this way. I keep up with the NBA all throughout the regular season, but don't watch that many of the games (other than when the Spurs are playing) because they just aren't worth the investment considering for many of the games the stakes simply don't feel that high. I think if the NBA would shorten the schedule to somewhere between 45-65 games and wouldn't start until Christmas time, the regular season would be much more enjoyable.

Knicks erase another 20 pt deficit to beat the champs in Boston by 1.

Home teams are 0-6 in 2nd round.

Thunder just scored most points in any half in NBA history.

It's hard to expect fans to care about the regular season when the players themselves don't in many cases.

Basketball is the one pro sport I think could really benefit from shortening its regular season. Give more days off between games to keep star players from sitting out so often and shrink the margin of error to force teams to play more often with playoff-level urgency.

I've said this before and I stand by it. There is no sport with a bigger gap -- both in quality and effort -- between its regular season and postseason than the NBA. The league has to do something about that because it's literally not worth watching until the playoffs.

Completely agree. Also the league has always struggled with how to handle team's "managing" players rest by sitting them. I think NBA offices would like to penalize teams for doing so, but that feels extreme considering how many games the teams have. If they were to shorten the season, it would likely help justify any penalties that the NBA would want to assess against teams who sit star players in games against bad opponents just for pure "load management."
