I love the NBA and always have. Always will. However, I wish more of the regular season felt this way. I keep up with the NBA all throughout the regular season, but don't watch that many of the games (other than when the Spurs are playing) because they just aren't worth the investment considering for many of the games the stakes simply don't feel that high. I think if the NBA would shorten the schedule to somewhere between 45-65 games and wouldn't start until Christmas time, the regular season would be much more enjoyable.
It's hard to expect fans to care about the regular season when the players themselves don't in many cases.
Basketball is the one pro sport I think could really benefit from shortening its regular season. Give more days off between games to keep star players from sitting out so often and shrink the margin of error to force teams to play more often with playoff-level urgency.
I've said this before and I stand by it. There is no sport with a bigger gap -- both in quality and effort -- between its regular season and postseason than the NBA. The league has to do something about that because it's literally not worth watching until the playoffs.
