What was the movie where someone described 'infamous' as being much more that just famous? Wasn't it that heavy drama 'The Three Amigos'?

Dec 30, 2018

"Lexi Gordon, a mid-year transfer from UConn, elected to commit Sunday to Texas Tech.

"I chose Texas Tech because I felt at home on my visit. Every person I met made me feel valued and loved here. I strongly believe in Coach M's vision," Gordon said Sunday in a Tech release. "I will also have the amazing opportunity to play in the Big 12 where my family can attend several games. I'm ready to start my new journey as a Lady Raider."

Gordon, a 6-foot sophomore wing, decided to transfer in the hopes of earning more playing time at a different university.

She reportedly garnered interest from Texas A&M and Northwestern and visited Lubbock back on the weekend of Dec. 21 before making her decision.

This season, Gordon played in four of the Huskies' first eight games while dealing with a leg strain. In that span, she's played 10 minutes, made one free throw and missed all five of her shots from the field.

Back in the 2017-2018 campaign, the Fort Worth native whose mother and father both played basketball at TCU logged the fewest minutes on the team (3.7), while tallying 11 points in 26 games.

Prior to her collegiate tenure, Gordon recorded more than 2,000 points at L.D Bell High School in Hurst, Texas. She netted 24.7 points and 9.5 rebounds as a senior en route to earning a No. 29 player rating from ESPN in the Class of 2017.

"I am very proud to welcome home the highly-ranked Texas girls' basketball phenom, Lexi Gordon. She brings exceptional ability to score and will thrive in our high-octane offensive system," Stollings said Sunday in a Tech release. "Lexi's tireless work ethic and high basketball IQ are characteristics that will help catapult our program into the national spotlight. We are ecstatic to have her join The Movement!"

"West Virginia senior Katrina Pardee collected the first Big 12 Player of the Week honor of her career, while Texas Tech's Chrislyn Carr was tabbed Freshman of the Week for the 2nd time this season.

Katrina Pardee G SR

This senior Player of the Week award winner made 9-of-11 from the field (81.8%) and grabbed seven rebounds in the victory. Pardee became the first WVU player since November 2017 to score 25 or more points in back-to-back games.

Chrislyn Carr G FR
Texas Tech

Netted 29 points in just 26 minutes of play in the victory over Abilene Christian. This Freshman Player of the Week award winner tied a career high with six rebounds and dished out six assists and collected two steals in the victory. Seventeen of Carr's 29 points came in the first half."

"As the Big 12 basketball season beckons, Karen Aston is searching for answers that cannot be found on a stat sheet. Led by point guard Sug Sutton, the 13th-ranked Longhorns have balanced scoring. They are outrebounding opponents by an average of 16 boards a game. But Texas has room for improvement on 3-point shooting percentage and needs to clean up its turnover totals.

Now in her 7th season as coach of the Longhorns, Aston has one more ingredient she'd like to see on a daily basis. Grit.

"We showed some grit in our tournament in Florida (in November), but grit comes in waves with this group," Aston said after the Longhorns concluded their non-conference schedule with an easy victory last Saturday against Northwestern State. "We've got to find it permanently. I don't think we've found it yet, and I hate to say that."

The Longhorns have played well considering medical issues
.. Junior forward Joyner Holmes is just beginning to get into basketball shape after missing the first eight games following ankle surgery.
.. Top recruit Sedona Prince could miss the entire season after breaking her right leg during an international game in August in Mexico City.
.. Leading scorer Lashann Higgs suffered a season-ending knee injury in the fourth game of the season.

The goal remains the same:
Beating Baylor and winning the Big 12 championship.

Destiny Littleton saw some grit when Texas pounded Northwestern State 104-66 on Saturday in the final non-conference tuneup of the season. The sophomore played her best game as a Longhorn, scoring 22 points, showing confidence in her game that was lacking last year.

"We were having fun; you could see us laughing and hyping each other up," she said. "We understand that the Big 12 isn't going to be the same as our pre-conference games. I feel like we'll flip the switch. I had to learn that practice is the most important thing when it comes to college basketball. You're not going to get any better if you don't take practice seriously."

Sutton describes this team as "a work in progress," a phrase Aston has used countless times since practice convened in October.

"I think we're prepared for what's in front of us," Sutton said.

In October, Aston said the Longhorns should be much better in February than they would be in the fall. That's how long it will take for a team that had to deal with three key injuries and the loss of seniors Brooke McCarty and Ariel Atkins to graduation.

By winning 10 of 12 entering Big 12 [conference play], the Longhorns have "put ourselves in a really good position" to receive a favorable draw in the NCAA Tournament in March. Another team [goal] is to play host again.

"It all starts in practice," Aston said, "and I think we have a chance to do some really special things."

Has anyone watched Iowa State play this year? Is it just improvement from the players they already had or did they bring in some new talent? Last year we slaughtered them in both matchups, totally outclassed them in talent and athleticism. I think they've proven their record thus far is not a fluke, so I'm wondering how it came about.

ASHLEY JOENS

"The highly touted freshman is playing great on offense, producing on defense and living up to the high hopes fans had for her when she came to Iowa State. In fact, she's one of the biggest reasons the No. 22 Cyclones are 13-2 on the season and 3-0 in Big 12 Conference play. The former Iowa City High star was named Miss Iowa Basketball and the state's Gatorade Player of the Year. Head coach Bill Fennelly wasted no time utilizing her, plugging Joens into his starting lineup and giving her the green light to shoot whenever she gets a good look.

Fennelly said it has helped the Bridget Carleton and Alexa Middleton, both seniors, have taken Joens under their wing, becoming mentors to the young star. Fennelly even sees a lot of similarities in Joens and Carleton, who had her share of ups and downs during her freshman season.

During Iowa State's 92-54 win over Texas Christian on Wednesday night, Joens matched a career high 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field."

Quotes from Bill Fennelly

"She said to me, 'Coach, I get upset when I can't do something. And I said, 'Ash, you can do it, you just can't do it yet.'"

"We're challenging her to be a great basketball player not just stay on the wing and when Bridget (Carleton) throws it to you, shoot it. And she's embraced that. She gets it."
