HC NICKI COLLEN QUOTES
after 88-52 win over TAMU-C
Oct 27, 2021

Using the game as an opportunity to try out new things
and see what her team could do
"Almost every timeout, I drew up something they haven't seen before. Someone gets this tape and they think that some of those are plays, they're not, they're not in our playbook yet. I want to know if they can see a diagram [and] execute coming out."

About Collen's new spread out offense
10-23 at 43.5% from the 3-point line
"I don't think that's a bad number; I mean, you're talking about a third of our shots being threes. I think that's realistic. We're going to shoot threes. I mean, you saw why, Ja'Mee [Asberry] can shoot it, Jordan [Lewis] can shoot it and Sarah [Andrews] can shoot it. So you know we have to be able to balance the floor for Queen [Egbo] and Lyss [Smith]."

About Baylor scoring 19 unanswered points
TAMU-C unable to score in first 6 minutes of game. Score 23-3 at end of 1st QTR
"I felt like as a group, they came out ready to compete. That's the big part, that they didn't take this team for granted. That they put their foot down and accelerated early."

Commenting on the 4th quarter
when BU was outscored 23-20 and BU defense gave up 6 offensive rebounds
"This team has to get better, there's a reason why Baylor led the nation in defensive and defensive rebound efficiency. Lyss [Smith] and Queen [Egbo] are good rebounders, but it was because of Moon [Ursin] and DiDi [Richards] and DiJonai [Carrington], because those guys are big guards that cleaned up a lot of balls, and we're small, we can't be big. So we have to check people early. We got to scrap and fight and do those things because we look differently."

Commenting on Andrea Katramados
freshman walk-on had only 3 practices with Baylor's team prior to this game. Andrea played 2 minutes & 50 seconds. She scored a basket with a shot from the wing with 56 seconds left in the game. It was Andrea's only shot attempt of the night.
"That's Andrea's spot left wing, left corner. She's pretty good at the long (2-pointers). She straddles the 3-point line. It's amazing the difference between the high school line and the college line. And obviously, this year it's pushed back a little further. But, she had no idea what she was doing out there."

Responding to Caitlin Bickle being suspended
for the game because of a violation of team rules
"Caitlin's a great kid. I'm not the slightest bit worried about her ability to move forward. When we get Caitlin back, she just changes the dynamic. She gives us another 3-point shooter."

From Bella Fontleroy's Instagram account

The game of basketball has so much more to offer than just what's in between those 94 foot lines. The lessons you can learn about who you are as a person, leader, and teammate are endless. The game itself is a literal choose your own adventure where you get to decide your impact and outcome based on work ethic, attitude and willingness to learn. My favorite thing this game has to offer are the relationships you build with the coaches, teammates and supporters who remind you at your lowest points that there is growth in the grind and that you have the potential to be great. And then there's the doubters, they play a key role as a special type of fuel that adds to that flame inside you driving you to reach that greatness. Thank you!

Thank you also to my parents for introducing me to the game. A special thank you to my father who helped me create the foundation that allows me to build and grow my game each day. Thank you to my mom who has coached me in the game of life and reminds me this game is an amazing conduit to reach and pour into others as I grow myself. Thank you to my siblings for being my biggest cheerleaders and traveling to every gym in the nation to cheer me on.

Thank you to every Coach I have encountered in the game so far - I've managed to take something from each of you that has taught me valuable life lessons. To this point I have made so many amazing relationships, my recruiting process has been no different. A special thank you to all the coaches who have believed in me and took the time to establish connections with me. The knowledge you have shared with me has been invaluable and I know this game has a crazy way of keeping us connected so I look forward to crossing paths again!

As for what's next for me, I am excited to share that I have made the decision to continue my academic and athletic career at Baylor University!

Bella has a clarity of purpose and of self that is rare for someone that young. She can follow and she can lead, and academics is at a high level in her ladder of values. What a fine representative of the women's program and of the university. She made an excellent choice for her college experience, and we are fortunate to have her as part of the Baylor family.
