Is this our first home nonconference loss to a team not named UConn since 2007? Last year's South Dakota dbcle notwithstanding.
Looked it up. Our last home noncon loss was UConn on 1/13/14. Before that it was Purdue on 11/19/06. Before that it was Arkansas on 12/2/99, when Sonja Hogg was still coach.

7. I like the playing time that Buggs and Bella are getting, it may shrink a little later in the year but, they are getting some game time experience when it counts.

Part of not having many losses at home during that time was that we basically brought in teams from the Sisters of the Poor conferences. You can probably count on two hands the number of times we brought in top 25 teams during non-conference. It was a complaint from the fans every year.

Not use to losing? Last year we lost a few games but had a winning record. We are still winning. When the losts out weigh the wins, then you can say that we are not use to losing.

Biggest takeaways from last night:

1. We need to play better team defense. To let Diamond Miller play downhill like that most of the night with some 3's sprinkled in, is not good. Need better help and flashing over.

2. We were nowhere near full strength. Edwards comes back I believe after the break and who knows when Blackwell will return. This will be a much better team later in the season, if we can stay healthy. This is the first time I remember starting a year with so many of your better players out.

3. Good to see Caitlin in there and this is a better team when she is playing, no matter who the personnel is.

4. Asberry has to either find her shot more consistently or, she needs to watch the game from the sidelines. I know that sounds harsh but, her height is a defensive liability. Look to the longer, taller 1st year players to fill that roll defensively and offensive rebounding. Buggs was impressive last night, it will be interesting if she can maintain that level of play as teams start to scout her more.

5. We need to have an exorcism at the Farrell to get rid of "Kim's curse". I am referring to the horrible team free throw shooting that one other poster mentioned has always been a curse of the FC for decades.

6. We are not a great 3 point shooting team (at this time). We need to have more midrange shooting and the 3's to keep them honest.

7. I like the playing time that Buggs and Bella are getting, it may shrink a little later in the year but, they are getting some game time experience when it counts.

Overall. given the horrendous shooting last night, the fact that Maryland turned it over at a 2-to-1 ratio, and we were depleted of starters, it was a promising game and as long as we can stay healthy, we have a good chance to do well.

Yeah asberry needs to come off the bench

Maryland is a lot, LOT better then 19th. They really made South Carolina work for it in their win over the Terps..
The team showed a lot of heart and no quit and that is the best takeaway from this game. Can't say enough about how important that is. Really proud of them for that alone !!!!
Still, this was a woulda, coulda, shoulda game - as has been pointed out by other posters the dismal first half shooting and giving up offensive rebounds late was a killer but this game still could have been sent into OT or won had we shot 78.0% from the charity stripe - something we are more then capable of doing. Got to get the free throws and giving up multiple offensive rebounds for multiple possessions fixed. We will !!
Nothing we can do about missed calls - Staff has to bring that to the official's attention during timeouts or stopage in play. Honestly, I do not think they know it happened - they will when the review the game video.
Keep the faith fans - Caitlin was a big difference I hoped she would be - just with her presence alone seemed to calm things down - the points with a wrapped hand were a major bonus, and she is going to get better when her hand fully heals. I noticed Diamond gave Caitlin a hug when she fouled out.
DLB and Bella get better every game - Catarena showed flashes of her ability even though it did not make the score sheet, Ashbury's 4 year history is she finds the range EVENTUALLY - we have to hope history repeats itself. CNC has a lot of faith in JaMee but that faith has not been reciprocated as yet. CNC has invested a lot of game minutes in JA - I am not so sure she is willing to continue to give those minutes to her with the current results. Biggest disappointment to me is that JaMee's defense seems to be in the same slump as her offense and that is even more concerning to me.
Blackman has not given up !!!!! she was very vocal on the bench - Edwards was in every huddle talking and cheering her teammates on.
It's going to take some time but this is a very good young team - just a work in progress right now.
Give them a chance to be ready by Conference & Tournament time.

I was disappointed also by the free throws, but after thinking about this game for a day, I feel greatly encouraged for the Bears.

To come so close to winning against a veteran club that is taller, more experienced and with a top WNBA pick next year against a team who have only played three games together and were missing important people showed us fans a lot of promise.

I thought DL-B had a good game and was really surprised to see her with a big "+/-"

Was my impression of her wrong or was the "+/-" more a reflection of with whom she was playing?

+/- (Plus/minus): The total point differential for the time that a specific player is on the court. This statistic measures a player's impact on the game. To calculate +/-, subtract the difference between a player's team's total points and their opponent's total points when that player is in the game.

It seems that DL-B is similar to Lauren Cox and Didi Richards as a player, in that she can impact a game in a lot of ways besides scoring. She's averaging 10.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game in the first 4 NCAA games of her career, and that doesn't count all the other little things on defense like cutting off driving lanes and deflections, or on offense like moving the ball and good shot selection. She just feels like the kind of player who helps you win, whether or not it's reflected on the stat sheet. Enormous and exciting potential.

Like most, if not all freshman, she has a ways to go to learn how to play defense and defensive footwork. It was the same with the 2 players you mentioned above. It takes time but, she has the athleticism to become a better defender. I think our 2 freshman (Buggs and Fontleroy) are going to be something special for Baylor.

As I stated before, I think by the time both graduate they will be 1k point and 1k rebounds.
