Just insane the amounts that are spent on unproven athletes. Arch will probably be really good based on his family name but it is crazy that kids coming out of HS that have not proven they can compete at the college level are getting hundreds of thousands of dollars or millions.

Brands wants to pour into these kids because they are nationally and sometimes globally known based on social media following, etc. Just so happens they are also really good at their respective sports.

We shall see how NIL works out in the next three seasons. If I understand correctly, aggy has paid for the entire lineup of super stars. When you play for NIL money and not the love of your University (and the hate of your rival) both will lose.

Using history to relate to today's NIL, imagine if RGIII had an offer of $2.1 million from UT his senior year and he switched to them. That's what we are facing in the future.

Agree. Remember when the NBA would draft HS players and they would flame out? Likely to see some of that in college football & basketball with these huge deals.

Since I do not follow WNBA I also have to wonder if college basketball pays more for women like Angel Reese than the WNBA pays. And will UConn and LSU get into bidding wars for players like Reese? Will we see players switch to a rival for a better contract like we do in the NFL/NBA? Will be interesting to watch it unfold.

A WNBA rookie gets around $50k, I believe (that's info from a couple of years ago, may be higher now). The highest paid WNBA players top out around $250k. You see why they play overseas, where good players can make $1M. College players with big NIL may stick around; Angel Reese has already said she'll take advantage of NIL, she'll take a big cut in WNBA

The 2023 WNBA pay scale for rookies is:

First Round, picks 1 thru 4 $74,305

Second Round, picks 5 thru 8 $71,300

Third Round, picks 9 thru 12 and free agents. $68,295.

The three highest paid veterans, Diana Taurasi, Jewel Loyd and Arica Ogunbowale, are all making $234,936.

The UIL money for Flau'Jae Johnson, the LSU Freshman Guard is estimated at $831,000. Why would any of the high Income UIL WBB players not stay as long as possible before taking a cut of potentially 90% or more?

Crazy yes, but this is the real world. High School QB's getting over a million before they enroll in college.

Way to Coach classless players. I would much rather win fewer games and be proud of my coach and her players. Angel Reese and Alexis Morris who Kim kicked off her Baylor team both taunted Caitlin Clark during the game and after the game. You can win and still be LOSERS. I prefer to win with a quality coach and teamwin the right way.
You act like CC wasn't trash talking either....Give me a break. Alexis and Angel won't last long in the WNBA, if they even make it, CC will - so last laugh on them...
You're absolutely right, Caitlin Clark was running her mouth all season, so, a lil pay back is something that shouldn't bother her. There is nothing here for people to be upset over, the Iowa people are going overboard on this one crying for Angel Reese of LSU to be disciplined or something. lol Also, to the OP it was Caitlin Clark talking trash about LSU's Alexis Morris before the game about she didn't respect her or something. That's why Morris said what she said at the end of the game about she has to respect her now.
If anything, I sort of like the "spirited" play by the girls now....It's always been a more enjoyable game to watch because they have to be more fundamentally sound...

These kids today need to watch the late 80's and 90's play of NBA and watch that trash talking. You didn't see whiners after the game, you saw players acknowledging they got beat but they were gonna make sure it didn't happen in the next game...

LSU AD Scott Woodward is being paid for results. In addition to a base of $1,850,000, his contract calls for bonuses of $500,000. for any year in which LSU's athletic teams win 3 SEC championships. Men's and/or women's. Any LSU team winning a National Championship gets him $500,000. How do you think he likes Kim Mulkey ?

I guess they are striving to be the best athletic department money can buy. The school gives their money to the AD and coaches. The donors give their money to the players. Having said that he ought to take a cut based on their crappy men's team.

Surely at some point this new era of professional college sports all comes crashing down in some manner. Whether it is a split between those that have unlimited pockets and those that don't or some type of regulation that better evens the playing field, I just can't see this situation as being sustainable as it exists today. Hard to get excited about college athletics when recruiting elite players now seems to be that the one you recruit boils down to recruiting a big money donor that will outbid every other school's big money donors to get you a player you want and let them do the recruiting. Not far from the situation where the actual pro leagues are cleaner and above the table than the universities.

Donors are less likely to pony up cash for WBB. A lot of brand deals are separate than the school. It's all about the specific athlete and the exposure they will get the brand. Now in football the "collective" thing is a much bigger deal, it's a big money maker for the school

Mulkey became a must-get for LSU after her Baylor teams made Auriemma's UConn stompers seem kind. She was the proud adult that produced 111-43 versus Arkansas State, 117-24 over McNeese and 136-43 over Northwest State, among other conquests. Thank you, and come again!

Naturally, the ugly final to an ugly season was rationalized and applauded on ESPN. Former NBAer Kendrick Perkins: "It's competition! This is what the game is all about!"

"If we knew that Clark was acting the fool for trash-talking and gesturing which we did and lowering her game to depths now seen as a low standard, why then would the young woman from LSU [Reese] intentionally go lower? Was there no one on the LSU side to say, 'Please don't respond. Keep it classy. Be the adult in the room'?

"Where was any adult in the room to do the right thing and on a national stage?

"And so the LSU player decided to copy off the paper of the kid we all knew had the wrong answer on the test."

And almost overnight, as if on cue, bad became worse.

You don't watch many sports, do you?

Like I said, the last 20 years have not been nice to her. I would count the bells-palsy as not being nice to her, as I would say a bout with skin cancer a decade or so ago was not nice to me. No doubt stress has also been a factor.
