Jaden Owens to Enter the Transfer Portal, Leave Baylor Women's Basketball

The revolving door that is the transfer portal continues to spin, and this time for Baylor it comes with an exit from their roster. Senior guard Jaden Owens has elected to enter the portal after playing two seasons in Waco.

Owens came to Baylor via the transfer portal from UCLA and will now search for a new roster to wrap up her collegiate career. Last season, the Plano, Texas native averaged 8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 5.8 assists for the Bears.

Baylor needed to find another scoring threat along the perimeter, as Owens unfortunately proved to be lacking in that department during her tenure with the Bears. The recent guard additions of Ohio transfer YaYa Felder and Kentucky transfer Jada Walker addressed those scoring concerns, but it also was the writing on the wall for Owens.

Felder reached double-figure scoring in all but three contests as a sophomore, turning in 20-plus points on 20 occasions. Of those outings, Felder eclipsed 30 points five times and turned in a 40-point performance at Central Michigan on Jan. 25. Walker reached double-figure scoring on 21 occasions, notching four 20-point performances.

At the moment heading into next season, Baylor’s guard rotation will feature two seniors and two juniors.

Yaya Felder, (JR-transfer from Ohio)

Jaden is a trooper, she played hurt and she played more minutes than she would have if we had more depth. She player great defense and was one of our primary ball-handlers. It appears that her role was due to change from starter to first or second point guard off the bench. I'm sorry to see her leave but she's a competitor so I can understand it. I am very grateful for her contributions to Baylor on and off the court and I send her my best wishes.

Like who? And how recently has she followed them? I do not know what she would be wanting out of it. I think she is guard number 1 she has the pieces around her to do really big things. I won't be able to believe this until I see this.

I'll miss her a lot. She was quick and tough.

With all those followers one has to think good NIL deals around the corner for her

Hmmm..she is from DFW area, but wish she'd gone outside BIG12. TCU not a team to be taken for granted...new coach, has gotten some good players from portal.

That is just too weird ??? I personally can not stand tcu and find it hard to support them at all. The name Christian should be dropped from their identity. Know many folks who geaduate as proud atheist. My computer service dude is avid Buddhist after graduating there. A religion class is required. IS ATHEISM A RELIGION or non religion. I really thought Owen's carried us early on with her dramatic driving layups and leadership. I wish she would have gone to SMU.

I can't tell if this is serious or not.

TCU actually has, for all intents and purposes, dropped, or at least minimized the term "Christian" from their name. In almost all publicity materials they refer to themselves simply as "TCU." Regardless, it isn't Christian identity, per se, that is the source of the "Christian" in TCU, but rather their affiliation with the Disciples of Christ denomination, which is officially titled the "Christian Church."

Even so, SMU is as "Christian" (in the way I am assuming you use that term) as TCU is.

Okā€¦can't stand TCU. She is very competitive and wants to be on the floor. TCU has some excitement building and Jaden will be a key player.
I hope we stomp them!

You are correct.. Ha ! I did not even realize what I implied about SMU. They have been less Christian a lot longer than TCU. I don't 'hate' SMU .... just rather see her out of Big 12 ! It will be weird playing against her. Kind how Cyclone fans will feel playing against us and their former player. Likely could 3 times , home , away and big 12 tourney. I have no animosity against Owen's wish her well just weird to play against her.

I really wish Jaden could have finished her career at Baylor. She is good player and was great ambassador for Baylor and the team. However with the portal additions, she would be pushed to the bench and I am sure Nicki was honest with her about her expected playing time next season.

Since Jaden is from Plano, TCU makes sense. Also she will likely be a starter there. Jaden obviously did not want to spend her last year on the bench.

I agree with this post. I really liked her and she was a great asset at Baylor. She would have lost her starting job. I will not say anything negative.

It's funny. I can remember telling her high school coach years ago that Jaden should go to TCU as that was about the level of ball where she could excel. I guess she finally made her way there.
