WACO, Texas – The No. 18 Baylor women’s basketball team returns home to host No. 22 West Virginia at Foster Pavilion on Saturday.

Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. and the game is available for streaming via the Big 12 Now on ESPN+.  A live radio broadcast will be available on ESPN Central Texas (1660 AM/92.3 FM) and live in-game updates will be provided via Twitter and live stats.

STARTING FIVE

Sophomore Darianna Littlepage-Buggs tallied 15 of her team-leading 17 points at BYU on Wednesday in the second half while adding 12 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. She has reached double-figure scoring 11 times this year and three of the last four games.

Graduate senior Aijha Blackwell eclipsed 1,000 career rebounds in BU’s win at Houston last weekend. She has led the Bears on the boards 10 times this season and has reached double figures on the glass in three of the last five contests.

Senior Sarah Andrews has 217 career 3-pointers and needs 44 more to break Odyssey Sim’s record of 258. The senior guard has hit at least two from range in 17 of 22 games this year.

The Bears have shot 50% or better from the floor in eight games this season. Baylor is 267-2 all-time when shooting 50% or higher from the field. The Bears went 33-of-59 (55.9%) from the floor in their 83-60 win at Houston (Feb. 4) and six players finished in double figures led by Dre’Una Edwards’ 15 points.

The 23-point win over the Cougars marked the fourth 16-plus point victory by Baylor in Big 12 action this season. The 83 points scored by the Bears marked the third time in conference play, and 10th time this season, that Baylor has tallied 80-plus in a game.

SCOUTING THE SERIES WITH WEST VIRGINIA

Baylor leads the all-time series with West Virginia, 22-5, and the Bears are 11-2 at home against the Mountaineers. The Mountaineers swept the two-game series with the Bears last season. Saturday’s game marks the first of two meetings between the two programs this season. Prior to BU’s pair of losses during the 2022-23 campaign, the Bears had won 11-straight dating back to the 2017-18 season.

Solid play from Baylor in the first. Darianna Littlepage-Buggs led the Bears in scoring for the first quarter with six points, closely followed by Sarah Andrews with five. Littlepage-Buggs is also leading BU off of the boards with three rebounds so far. At this point, Bears lead rebounding 8-6 and assists 4-2.

This looks like the team that we saw beat UT and Utah. Solid game so far

34-26 at the half. Bears are shooting 50% from the field and 33% from 3 point range. Much better than against BYU. And we are winning the battle of the boards tonight also. 9 turnovers is the only negative.

11 point lead after 3 quarters. Much better play than against BYU.

Maybe some of the bench gets some playing time in the 4th quarter. I guess we have gone from a deep bench to an 8 player rotation.

If we could shoot free throws we win this game by double digits.

The crowd was really in it for most of the game. No doubt that helped. No cupcakes for the students, though.

I hope the altitude had a lot to do with BU's performance against BYU.

It was a really nice win. I thought we played with a lot of energy, and it looked like the team was relaxed and having fun. And of course we shot better. The crowd was a little smaller but everyone was in it.

I was surprised when Catarina came in, but I had not realized she also played against Houston as well.

Is it just me or did Sarah Andrew's have her best game in the past couple weeks? I haven't looked at her stats but she seemed to be playing much better.

We may not get all the details until after the season but I believe she is dealing with injuries. CNC said she was not able to get in top shape and I think at least there are some nagging injuries that limit her ability to train. Jada is dealing with growing pains at the point, offensively, and I'm think Sarah would take point more if she was able. They may be saving her for late in the game. Sarah is a warrior and an All-American level player, when healthy. I think her slum is related her health.

I also believe Sarah has a wealth of potential. I fear she is an injury liability at the next level. She has struggled to get (and stay) healthy over the last couple of years.

She made an aggressive move to the rim for a basket, which I appreciated seeing. But her stats look pretty much like they have for the last several games:

2-8 from the field
1-6 from the 3 point line
2-4 from the free throw line

6 assists is good though.

This is Jada's third year playing PG, so i would hope there aren't growing pains 3 years in. She isn't big enough to play the off guard against Power 5 teams.

Good point, it just seems that she is still adapting to the style of offense she is asked to play here. I believe her best basketball in ahead of her, hopefully starting later this season.

That was my thinking too. I hope she is healing up nicely.
