Compared to what we had left when CNC showed up for work, we have depth that we never had. Depth is usually depleted due to injuries during the year. We barely had enough for a team. Had Smith and Egbo transferred, we would have ben toast in any way you want to measure it and would still be trying to get out of the gutter. We even had to add a walk-on just to practice. It's taken a few years to build that up. We have been primarily trying to fill holes to have a competitive team, much less have any depth. How many consecutive years have I heard this from every school as the season begins and then by mid season everyone is using the excuse that they just don't have any depth to explain a team is underachieving. It's usually the we're 10 or 11 deep and worried about people transferring and then by late January there are 7 people who actually play.
It may be getting harder and harder to find recruits that buy-into the school itself and will stay through their first year and likely not get a ton of playing time, versus how much money do I get. With the way things are now it is probably more effective to just buy experienced players via the portal to fill the holes you need to fill than pay up highly for unproven talent at the college level from HS.chorne68 said:

I think with all the unknowns around NIL and how it affects everything, I think the best a fan can do is to pull for what you have this year and not worry about where the players are coming from for the next. You have nothing anything close to a guarantee that any of them will return next year.
