It seems reasonable that by now bu wbb has some general assessment of Bella's injury; but have we heard a general report? Season ending injury? Day to day? Out 2 weeks? Already back at full practice. Maybe it is common place, but bu wbb operates by withholding info from a fan base they should seek to engage. Postgame comments are often late or impossible to find. Broadcast info on games takes detective work by fans. Why not keep your constituents on the hook with open and honest communication? Do we have no media director in wbb or the athletic department who would be willing to prioritize, market, and communicate authentically with interested fans? I know injury info is personal and protected, but other programs have created a culture of open communication by players where the shroud of secrecy is lifted. Has the news been released, and I am blind? Why so long to get prognosis on Jana V?

"I know injury info is personal and protected" (you said it). Players decide if and when that information is released. It's called HIPAA.

In another thread chibesr2 said that at the Tip Off Club luncheon CNC alluded to Bella playing Thursday.

Slightly old but mostly still relevant:

FERPA & HIPAA restrictions are horribly misunderstood.

Clearly,

There are ways to communicate injury reports as stated, by having athletes sign consent form.

Also, one does NOT have to say torn ACL. Simply, not expected to return this season, injury is day to day etc.

Hiding under a HIPPA does not relieve coaches of the duty to communicate with their constituents.

I don't see that as a duty, but a courtesy. And it happens in football all the timethe vague responses to injury questions, especially if the player is a starter. Makes the opposing team's prep harder.

Now, we ARE playing East Texas A&M, the team formally known as A&M Commerce, so don't know how much advantage we need, over what we already have, but that is the coach's discretion, not obligation, no matter how much we BOTH might want to know.

I would assume with there being no mention that she is back to playing. It is more of a story if she were to miss a set of games. Otherwise, unless directly asked, there is no reason to bring it up.

That said, every player has to consent to injury information being released. Many football programs require it, as fans expect it. But a lot of women's basketball players do not. I see this being the direction of things as they want to release it on their timeline. It is personal, and for those dealing with season ending injuries, it is also often emotional. Gives them time to breathe, especially for star athletes who will be in the news/press as a result.

I'd imagine considering the opponent they rest her. Unless of course she's truly ready to go. No need to risk further injury against an opponent the girls will beat by 25 plus
