WACO, Texas - Baylor (7-2) extended its winning streak to three games after taking down Lousiana Tech (4-3), 98-54, on Sunday afternoon at Foster Pavilion.

With just over 30 seconds remaining in the second quarter, guard Sarah Andrews (5Sr.) came off a screen, stepped back and drained a 3-pointer at the top of the key to tie Baylor legend Odyssey Sims’ program record of 258 made 3-pointers.

Andrews later broke the record and took sole possession of first place on the all-time 3-pointer list with another make beyond the arc in the fourth quarter. She finished with 11 points, six rebounds and four assists on the afternoon.

Center Aaronette Vonleh (Sr.) led the Bears in scoring with a season-high 22 points on 10-12 shooting. Vonleh is averaging over 20 points across her last three games.

Three different Bears recorded a double-double in the victory.

Guard Jada Walker (Sr.) collected her second career double-double with 14 points, a team-high 10 assists and five steals.

Forward Darianna Littlepage-Buggs (Jr.) notched her second straight double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Fellow forward Bella Fontleroy (Jr.) added 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Baylor looked to Vonleh down low early and often to open the contest. The preseason Big 12 Newcomer of the Year had seven of the Bears' 16 first-quarter points.

In the second quarter, Baylor closed the half on a 24-2 run, with six different players adding a bucket during that stretch. The Bears had 10 assists on 15 first-half, made field goals, and led 42-21 going into the locker room.

The Bears dominated in the second half, forcing 21 turnovers and out-scoring the Lady Techsters 56-33 over the final two quarters.

Baylor will continue its five-game homestand against Texas Southern (1-4) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Foster Pavilion.

Pad the record. Beat bad teams and work on offensive movement.

Congrats Sarah breaking Baylor record, even though 5 years. Still an accomplishment no matter who you play.

The "even though 5 years" asterisk appears to be a red herring on the surface.

According to statistics from sports-reference.com, Sims played four seasons and totaled 4572 minutes played..

Andrews has played in four+ seasons and so far has totaled 3829 minutes played.

Andrews thus far has only played 84% of the minutes Sims played. On these numbers Andrews has been a more prolific 3-point shooter than Sims.

Now, having said the above there are extenuating circumstances for each. Sarah's first year she only played 350 minutes. In her first year, Sims played 1073 minutes. But Sims also played in the KM style of play of "get the ball to Griner", so Sims had fewer opportunities to shoot threes.

They both deserve recognition for their 3-point shooting, but I don't think any asterisk needs to be placed by Sarah's number because she is playing her fifth year. The numbers just don't justify doing that. She has been on the court far less than Sims.

Thanks Blackie, this is very good info, appreciate your pointing those things out. Have to say that Sims is one of our favorites of all time.
