Bears Get Back In Win Column With Wire-To-Wire 75-64 Victory over UCF
ORLANDO – Baylor women’s basketball (17-5, 7-2) snapped its two-game losing streak with a wire-to-wire 75-64 victory over the UCF Knights (7-12, 0-9) on Wednesday night at Addition Financial Arena.
Center Aaronette Vonleh (Sr.) scored a team-high 22 points on 11-of-12 shooting and hauled in five rebounds. Forward Darianna Littlepage-Buggs (Jr.) inked her third double-double of conference play and ninth of the season with a 17-point, 11-rebound performance.
In the win, Baylor shot 43% (29-67) from the floor and 29% (9-31) from beyond the arc in comparison to UCF, which shot 39% (21-54) overall and only drilled two 3-pointers (2-11).
After back-to-back games in which Vonleh struggled against the size of TCU’s 6-foot-7 Sedona Price and UCLA’s 6-foot-7 Lauren Betts, Baylor’s center bounced back on Wednesday with a team-high 12 points in the first half — she had 11 across her last two games.
Guard Sarah Andrews (Sr.) continued her hot streak by burying three 3-pointers in the first half and helped the Bears take a 43-30 lead going into the halftime locker room. Andrews closed the contest with 12 points and seven assists.
Mid-season transfer guard Aliyah Matharu (Sr.) gave Baylor a nice spark off the bench with six points. After starting her Baylor career on a strict minutes restriction, Matharu has blossomed in recent weeks and has totaled 36 points across her last four games.
The Knights outscored Baylor, 34-32, in the second half. Forward Bella Fontleroy (Jr.) added eight points, collected seven rebounds and nabbed a team-high two steals.
Baylor (17-5, 7-2) will return home and take on the Cincinnati Bearcats (13-6, 5-4) at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 2. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
