Correct me if I'm wrong, but it appears that if West Virginia can beat TCU tomorrow, then we would only have to win one of our last two games to win at least a share of the title.

That would be correct ! a tie with TCU as we would have split games, but a tie with K.State we would have the tie breaker with a win on Monday's gave vs. them.

Except for 1 scenario. We beat Kansas State and lose to TCU. TCU wins their game between WV and Baylor. Then even though we have same record, they would be 2-0 against us, which is a decisive tiebreak.

If we lose to KSt and beat TCU such that there is a 3 way tie, KSt wins with a 2-0 head to head record over BU and TCU. Not sure which of us would be seeded 2nd or 3rd since both BU's and TCU's 3 losses would be to OKSt, KSt and each other.

I was under the impression from a previous thread that, because of uneven schedules, there's no such thing as "head to head" that breaks ties. If there's a tie at the tip, you share the title. Is this not correct?

My understanding is that H2H breaks ties only if the teams play twice and one team wins both

This is correct.
I think the girls will need to win out. I don't see WV beating TCU.
KSU is a good matchup for the lady bears. I don't see them having too much of an issue in Manhattan. Comfortable win incoming

Man, I hope you're right, but that's not what I see. We've had a lot of trouble with their length last year. I think this will be a tight game. However, I have to admit that I have not watched K-State more than 15 minutes this year. Our team certainly seems to be playing better so I hope we can show it and I hope you are proven right. .

Head to head doesn't matter in determining regular season championship..

If TCU sweeps us but we still have same conference record.. we're Big 12 co champs.

Head to head just dertimines seeding in KC.

Ok, I stand corrected. Looked up '23-'24 Texas. They beat Oklahoma twice but still were co-champions with them

As noted above, notwithstanding Conference Tournament seeding we are at least co-champs if we beat TCU.

Welcome anyone's help here. It looks like we may have already clinched a double-bye for the conference tournament. Worst case we end with 4 conference losses. There are currently only 5 teams with 4 losses or less. We could possibly end up in a 3-way tie for third with 2 of the three teams getting the double-bye. We would be 14-4. If OSU and Utah win out, they would be14-4 (Utah plays at WVU, so they might go to 5 losses).

OSU beat us and Utah
We beat Utah
Utah didn't beat either.

I would think that would push Utah to the fifth seed in the tournament.

KSU does play at ISU after our game on Monday, so I guess there could be a 4-way tie for second with 3 teams getting double-byes if they beat us and lose to ISU. Too head scratching to figure that one out.

???

We solve it all by winning!

Win out would be fabulous! But getting a double bye into the Big 12 Tournament is huge for Buggs to get healthy.

If we beat Kansas St we can finish no worse than second. Beat Kansas St. and TCU we are the champions.

But, if we lose to both Kansas St and TCU we could end up tied for third with Ok.St and Utah..

Ok. State has the tie breaker against us and Utah, So they would be third and we would be 4th by virtue of our win over Utah.

Being in the final 4 of the league is crucial as to the schedule in the tournament .

i admire the willingness to make a statement "before" the fact. if the bears beat k-state, baylor will break the cats 17-game winning streak in manhattan.

Been wrong plenty of times before. Perhaps I'm wrong tonight and KSU gets the dub. Good news for you is I'm willing to eat crow if I'm wrong

I usually make it down to the games in Lawrence and Manhattan. Tonight will be the first time I've missed the BU/KSU game in Manhattan in several years.

Without Buggs, I don't expect us to win tonight. However, I like the team that Nikki has built and know that we will play hard. Our defense has taken a step up in recent weeks and we have been hitting the threes. With Ayoka Lee back, KSU has renewed optimism and is playing to ensure they host the first weekend of the tournament. They are almost unbeatable at home and have a great team. I hope to eat crow for leaning against the Bears. I do think it has been wise to not rush Buggs back. We proved last year that we can win on the road in the big dance, and if we get at least a 6 seed, I think we can do it again.
blackie
How long do you want to ignore this user?
If Baylor were to get a 6 seed because we lose some games without Buggs, Whoever the 3 seed would be getting a raw deal assuming she would be back for that. And then if you beat the 3 seed, you are just as well off as had you been the 3 seed in the first place.

This happens a lot. Teams get players back in time for the tourney and their seeding did not take into account player absences and returns. Causes a lot of grief in the upper seeds not getting the relative patsies they expect in the second round.

Several unknowns (though I think some informed guesses can be made) affect tonight's game.

1. Will Buggs play? (Probably not)
2. Will Lee play? (Probably)
3. Will Lee be able to play effectively against our game plan? (Probably on offense/defensively…depends. We can't just drive it to lane where she just has to stand and swat. Work around that effectively and half your gameplay for TCU also in place.)
4. Will we have an effective offensive game plan with lots of actions to get our short guards open 3-point and mid range shots? (Nicki is an excellent game strategist)
5. Will we hit shots? (Who knows; we have been lately…)
6. Will our defense be disruptive and make it harder for their taller guards to get comfortable and/or make entry passes into the low post? (We certainly have been stout in this area defensively the last few games. Team seems bought in and we are athletic, so I think "yes")
7. Can we keep from being significantly out rebounded? (Going to be tough. Whoever is guarding down low has to block out and hold those block outs. Guards have to go get the loose balls)
8. Can we stay out of foul trouble? (A big concern on the road with a large crowd, no doubt. Especially with our aggressive defense.)
9. Do we play loose like we have been or do we tighten up because the pressure has been ratcheted up? (Hard to foresee. Both teams veteran. Do those seniors play a "been there, done that" game or do they fall into "this is it for me…no more chances" and succumb to the pressure?)

Need things to break our way.

Other concerns?

With Bella, I say we win by double digits. Not as confident with her on the bench. We need to hit at least eight 3 pointers and if our post can make Lee work and tire her down, she likely won't be able to keep up with our pace. Just hoping our legs aren't too tired from Saturday's game and the flight. This is a big game.

if yoki lee plays more than ten minutes i'll be somewhat surprised.

Jennings has had some good minutes the last couple of games which is very good because we will definitely need to play her some tonight. Kyla also had some good defensive minutes. Her shooting needs to improve but she has looked good defensively. We will need her length tonight.

I pray that Netty can avoid foul trouble and that Bella and Yaya continue their excellent play. I also hope Sarah is feeling the 3 point shooting tonight.
blackie

I don't think the team will feel pressure. Bella stated as much in a recent interview. Regarding the consequences of the game. If we win, we will still have to beat TCU to finish in first. If we lose, we can still become co-champs by beating TCU. So, the bottom line is that all this game means is possible NCAA seeding (which obviously means a lot it would lead to hosting), but really doesn't have much to do concerning ending up in some form of first place. That will all be decided in the TCU game. Win or lose, we have to put this game behind us, because the real decider is the season closer at home.

I just fear a slow start and a cool shooting night. If we can avoid that, I think we have an excellent chance here, even without Buggs. It seems the team has stepped up to play harder because they are playing for her.

I hope all the "win or lose" scenarios with both games gives us a double bye in the Big 12 Tournament. That gives us an even better chance to have Buggs playing close or at full strength.

If I am understanding correctly, there will be regular season co-champs if teams end tied, regardless of head to head.

However, seeding for the Big 12 tournament will take into account various tie breakers, including head to head, since you can't have two teams with same seed, obviously.

If TCU loses to Houston, we clinch a share of the B12 title. In Hughey we trust

ESPN has TCU at a 99% favorite to win the game. It would make Houston WBB's decade if they pull that upset.

What all seniors are we honoring on Sunday? Do love when they ask age of the year is at home for a proper Senior Day.

Conley, Andrews, Matharu, Felder are all fit sure out of eligibility. I think Jada is as well. So those 5 I'm sure are being honored.

There's probably a greater chance of seeing pigs fly.

Get ready for a winner-take-all showdown on Sunday.
