Whats everyone's thoughts and takes on how we should game plan against them what to take away, and what we need to do to beat them.

Heres what i think:

Its important for vonleh to have her best game against Sedona, she needs to attack her every chance see get, go right at her.

Also important for Kyla to be ready and locked in.

One really important thing i noticed watching tcu over the season is that teams allow hailey to play free, when she played against south Carolina and oklahoma state, they really took that away. Our guard have to pressure the mess out of her and staying out of foul trouble is important but at times you have be a little aggressive against her so she don't feel as open and free, same with Madison conner.

I won't guarantee a W like I did vs KSu as TCU is a much more difficult matchup.
She's by all intensive purposes a crap person however, Prince is a darn good basketball player. The type that will give BU fits. The key is neutralizing her. Make The Connor's girl and HVL beat us.
Offensively attack HVL. She's a good ball player but she's slow footed defensively . Walker should be able to get around her fairly easily causing TCU to overhelp leaving players wide open for 3.
Won't predict a winner but I will say without a doubt TCU is Baylor's toughest opponent this year aside from UCLA.

Do you or anyone else remember what changed in the first TCU game that caused us to first be down, I think by at least 20 and then turn around in the 4th, especially, to cut it to a one possession game. And if the ref could count to 5 without taking 6 or 7 seconds to do it we could have been in position to win it.

Was it shooting that was completely terrible in the first part of the game that went back to normal. Was it intensified defense or what. I just don't remember. I do know that we are playing way much better than we were back then and the defense has really stepped up. I feel cautiously optimist about this game regardless of our lineup.

The game could go the way of the whistle if it puts Vonleh or Prince on the bench for an extended time. I have to believe the women will be ready to give it their all.

Get Prince in foul trouble early by having Jada, Sara and YaYa attack the lane as much as possible.

Also, pray for God to hurry up with Buggs' healing.

I think you have to attack the lane intelligently. There have been some drives where it seems the whole intent is to draw a foul, but the attempted shot is so out in left field that not even a good ref would call a foul because it would be too much of a bailout. It has gotten better the last several games where Jada has attacked but instead of throwing up something ridiculous has dribbled back out.

Sarah has got to actually have a clear space to where she is going to dish the pass versus trying to throw it through two opposing players. It is a fine line. But we can't have unforced turnovers because of what we are trying to do.

We also have to save the possession when we get a steal and the route to the breakaway layout is not clear. We have had too many of those blocked recently. Very frustrating to see a great defensive play and then basically throw it away with a "layup" attempt that is never going to work and isn't even close enough to call a foul.

My recollection of the game is that we struggled to defend the Van Lith/Prince pick and roll. So we had to send help which left open shooters (or layups). They also shot the ball really well. Those shots stopped falling which helped us get back into game.

I recall the struggles of our offense less well. I think we were bothered by Prince in the paint, and struggled to make jump shots (similar to many games over past 2 seasons).

We got back into the game by playing very fast. They got tired and we had fantastic shot-making.

I haven't rewatched that game, but I think I remember getting a lot of shots blocked near the goal just like we did at UCLA. Prince is an active shot blocker.. I wish we would drive the middle and take some attempts at a short free-throw line or in jump stop and sometimes driving to the rim if it seems like we have a reasonable Avenue to actually make it. ,I don't think they have anyone fast enough to stay in front of our guards. Jada used to be money at this shot but doesn't seem to take it much. This would be a good game for it to show up. No one on TCU could stay in front of Aliyah. She just needs to attack the rim without getting fouls called on her. We need to have solid three-point shooting too. I remember that being pretty poor the first time around at least early. We just need Eddie to give us a solid aggressive performance. She was pretty much a no-show in the first game from what I recall. We don't need her to match, but we need her to be productive and a good defensive presence in the paint. If we can keep her fouls at a minimum in the first half, that could be huge for our team. I do think she needs to use her body on Prince to back her down and try to get to the foul line if she doesn't score. And she's going to need to make her free throws. If she is not playing big, I hope that Kayla can get some early time as she showed very well against Lauren Betts of UCLA. They had a player from Stanford, who normally doesn't score much. Shewent crazy from three and went five for five or something close to that. Sure would be nice to have someone unexpected like Wise step up and do that. We know she can be a scorer by her history and she has really nice form on her shot. Finally, I'm just going to cross my fingers on Bella and. DLB. Without them, it will be a very tough road that I will never count out this team as they seem to have great grit and effort and will. Hope like heck we are hanging another banner Sunday night.!

This game has the potential to be a great springboard for the future, especially if won short-handed. However, it is not a program building killer if we do not win it. To me, it is somewhat akin to the bowl game with LSU as far as what it projects for the program. Lots of reward, but when you get right down to it not a lot of downside risk, a disappointment if it comes to that, but I don't think much more. Of course, a loss would give "LT's" casuals fan a reason not to come back, but they probably would sit out most of the regular season next year anyway regardless of outcome as they would come up with another reason not to show up.

The loss could be a 4-seed in the tourney, but I believe this team has the capability with, hopefully a full roster, to beat a 4 seed on the road. As I mentioned before the KSU game, my hope is just that we play as best we can with whoever we have and then let things fall as they may. And as I said earlier, I am cautiously optimistic on this game especially with my belief that the coaching staff will put things in place that if TCU is going to beat us, they are going to have to do it differently than they did in Ft. Worth. The Baylor defense in that game was not the great, energized defense we have been seeing over the past month or so.

What are our chances of beating tcu without Bella and Buggs ?? Maybe 10 % ??

Probably the same as holding off (and then expanding the lead) against KSU in their house without either one, and in that game it was never planned that Bella would not be there for essentially the entire 2nd half. I sure hope TCU is thinking like you!

ESPN has us at a 62.2% of winning. I'm guessing that factors in not having Buggs but having Bella. If I were to guess, without either we have a 50/50 chance of winning.

The 10% is way off. But without both (assumptions) the chance at victory significantly declines. KSU did beat TCU. However, TCU is a much better team than KSU. Girls gave their work cut out. But I'm still of the opinion Bella plays. So it's a mute point

I found the January game on YouTube and buzzed through it last night. Here's some thoughts based on rewatching the game, the box score, and Collen's postgame presser.

1) Sedona Prince - she had a massive game in January. The box score says she had 24 points, 14 boards, and 3 blocks. Offensively, she was able to score with variety; on rebound putbacks, midrange shots, and she was very effective on the high pick and roll. Defensively, she held Netty to one of her worst games of the season with 4-11 shooting, and note that Netty was probably 2-2 when Prince was off the floor, so really she was about 2-11 against Prince. All of those missed shots were altered or rushed by Prince's defense, and in addition I unofficially counted another 5 missed shots from other players (Buggs, Andrews, Felder) which were not blocks but were also altered by Prince contesting. If we were trying to play downhill and get into her to create foul trouble, we were not successful. Prince played 37 minutes and only had 3 fouls. She's also fairly mobile for a 6'7" player, so she's excellent as a help defender.
WHAT CAN WE DO DIFFERENT? - Collen talked about changing angles on shots near her, and pulling up for midrange instead of taking the ball to her. Specifically with Netty she talked about increasing the height of her release point; often Netty was trying to pivot around Prince and get wide and her shot release was near her shoulder, which allowed Prince to alter it. In the 2nd half, Netty had success a couple of times playing bully ball; she power dribbled while bumping her butt directly into Prince's body to gain a couple of feet, and then after bumping Prince off she elevated while Prince was off balance. There's risk that could be called a charge, but it was her most effective move. Defensively, we must communicate better on the pick and rolls. There were perhaps 5 times during the game when we were terrible on our pick and roll defense, either doubling the ball and letting the picker roll clean for a layup, or by not picking up the ball at all and giving a clean layup. One more observation about Netty - she's an elite finisher from the low post, but the length of Betts from UCLA and Prince from TCU gave her fits. Netty rarely passes out of the low post; I'm guessing it's because she's able to score at a 60% rate, so the higher percentage shot is normally for her to take what she can get. But it seems that if she's going to elevate her game to win against the very best, she needs to add the element of passing out of the low post and finding spot up shooters.

2) Emma-Nnopu - she quietly had an outstanding game. She had 12 points (and was a perfect 3-3 from 3 point line), she had 10 boards, and played solid defense. She was scrappy and physical, she blocked out and got contested 50-50 balls.
WHAT CAN WE DO DIFFERENT? - Box out. We were outrebounded 45 - 34. Several of Emma Nnopu's rebounds (and Van Lith's rebounds) came because we had too many players standing and watching. It often felt like Netty and Prince were in an epic battle, Buggs was going for every board, and everyone else was spectating. We gotta get body on body from all 5 players. If Emma-Nnopu is perfect from the 3 point line again, we'll tip our hat to her, but we can't let her get clean to the boards.

3) TCU Spacing - TCU has such great perimeter shooters that defenses must play them honestly, so it's shocking to see when Prince comes out for a high pick and roll how often the entire lane is empty without a soul within 4 feet. This allowed them to get a high number of one-on-one drives to the hoop, especially off the pick and roll.
WHAT CAN WE DO DIFFERENT? - This is a problem for every TCU opponent, and I don't have a brilliant solution other than perhaps (a) we need the weak side defenders to squeeze another couple of steps toward the lane?, and/or (b) clean up the pick and roll defense. At the end of the day, against great opponents we often must make a choice on what to shut down and what to concede. Perhaps we're willing to concede 3 point shots by Bigby and Hunter and Emma-Nnopu, but we want to chase Conner and Van Lith off the line? Perhaps we're willing to concede midrange shots to Prince, but not low post?

4) Pace of Play - our 2nd half comeback was triggered when we went small, with a 3 Guard lineup, and began pressing. It seemed to change our energy. We scrambled a little harder to help on defense, we scrapped a little harder after loose balls. Note that the one statistical advantage we had was Turnovers; we caused 16 from TCU, but only committed 4. We ran the floor a little harder in the 2nd half, which led to a sequence when Sarah made back to back 3's, Buggs got loose for a fast break bucket on a nice pass from Sarah, and Matharu stripped Van Lith for a breakaway layup.
WHAT CAN WE DO DIFFERENT? - Push the pace. Collen discussed this in the presser, and thought that we were more effective when we pushed the pace of play. To my eye, it played into our advantages a little better because we could at times beat Prince up the floor to take her out of the defense, and it allowed us to utilize our quickness advantage over Conner and Van Lith. Pushing the pace and creating a more chaotic game may not be possible if Buggs and Bella are both out, because we'll effectively have a short bench and may not be able to afford the fatigue and foul trouble.

They kicked our ass for 2 1/2 quarters in January, and were up by 21 at one point before we came back and closed to within 5. It encouraged me that we can beat them. I think we learned some things in those back to back losses v UCLA and TCU, and we've run off 9 straight wins since, including v West Virginia, Iowa State, and KState. We feel like a different team now, more confident and making smarter decisions. It feels like our defensive intensity is much better. I'm hoping both Buggs and Bella are healthy and on the floor on Sunday, but it may just be Netty and the Smurfs. I'm still interested in watching that game, because our small ball quickness will be a challenge for them.

Thanks Polarbear for taking the time to go back and look at this. The only thing I would point out is that we got the lead down to 3 versus 5. And we should have gotten the ball with a chance to tie by denying an inbounds pass when TCU had no timeouts. Had that 5-second violation been called, we could have tied it then. But even with that as I recall it, I believe Sarah missed a three that would have tied it very, very late and then we had to foul which caused the 5 point difference.

A question is will TCU try to play differently than they did when they played us the first time. Sometimes it is to the advantage of the team that got kicked around to make adjustments into how they play where the team that did the kicking is left with.......it worked, why change it. In other words, they will see something different from us. Will we see anything different from them that will negate our pregame plan of attack?
