These teams are not taken very seriously, but I believe one of them (not sure which) will make it to the elite 8 and maybe final 4. In no particular order

Baylor (if Buggs is 100%)
Duke
NC State
Tenn
Maryland
TCU
LSU
Kentucky

Who would you add to the bridesmaid list?

Maryland is a paper tiger and Kentucky doesn't have the depth to get past the S16. The rest are all capable. I think Baylor's ceiling is the S16 depending of course on matchups. Duke struggles to score for long stretches at times which will hurt them at some point. If big IF LSU is healthy they can reach the F4 but that's their absolute ceiling. NCST is a mystery. I don't trust TCU against athletic teams. Elite guards are going to abuse HVL. Tenn is another who's capable of making a run. They're built for March imo.
I'd be weary of Florida St. that's a team seeded outside the top 5 that's no one will want to play. They're built for March. Elite guards who can beat you off the dribble and are fully capable of burying 3's paired with an elite rim protector. I'll be paying close attention to where they end up seeded.

West Virginia is an interesting team that could sneak up on some folks.

I think we could see more than one of these teams in Elite 8. Of course it all depends on match ups, but I think all teams you listed are very capable of Elite 8.

I'm thinking Duke might make a good run, they have won some big games lately.

Out of that list, depending on the matchups for all those teams, Baylor has good chance to Elite 8. If Aneesah Morrow and Flaujae Johnson are healthy, no foot issues, they will have their 3-headed scoring and rebounding monsters, and should make it to Elite 8/Final 4. Don't think they'll make it to NC game coz their bigs not consistent. Tenn is a sleeper, they are loaded with 5-star players, they are dangerous.

Cremes latest bracketology has FSU in Baton Rouge. That would be a ridiculous 2nd game. One that could easily favor the Seminoles. He still have Tenn coming to Waco and I still hate that matchup.

At this stage of the game Creme doesn't seem to move anyone other than who needs moving up or down; he doesn't seem to take time to reset matchups. Case in point: he had us as a 5 against Ole Miss in the same regional with USC and KSt as a 4 against Tennessee in the same regional with UCLA. He just swapped us out when KSt lost and we kept winning.

If we are a 4, the primary reason for the likelihood of any SEC team coming to town depends on how crowded with SEC teams the 4/5 lines are, and whether somebody needs to be moved up or moved down to avoid intraconference matchups.

That list makes sense. At least two of them will make it assuming that the Big 6 (USC, UCLA, Texas, SC, Notre Darme, UConn). If I would add another, it would be North Carolina. They are 5-4 in Quad 1.

Nevermind ... I can't count to 8.

I understand the reasoning for this, so don't shoot the messenger. However, that is a really tough move up or down because it means you are going to host or you are not. Not the same as a 3/4 situation or a 5/6, etc. I think that intraconference matchups should take second consideration. The top 16 should host....period.

Whoever has a 3 or 6 seed will have much stronger chance to break through with an upset to make Elite 8.
A 4/5 seed must upset one of the elite #1 seeds like South Carolina, UCLA, USC, Texas, and I don't think any of those listed is a realistic threat
But I could definitely see one of those listed win an upset game over a #2.

We almost did it last year. It is the price you pay to host if you aren't a 3. If the choice is being a 6 or hosting....well the choice in my mind is obvious. You just take it one game at a time and enjoy the ride while you are in the game.

Give me hosting every time.

No sense in putting the cart before the horse.

You gotta win 2 games first (before you can worry about that Sweet 16 matchup), and hosting gives you the best chance to do that.

Once you accomplish that, then you let the chips fall where they may.

Also, there is no guarantee that facing a #2 seed is better than facing a #1 seed this year. It's all about matchups once you get down to 16 teams.

Take UCONN, for example.

Outside of South Carolina, they are probably the most dangerous team to face, and they are most likely going to be a #2 seed.

I'd prefer to stay away from both of those teams for as long as I could, and take my chances with everyone else, regardless of seeding.
