#5 Vandy falls to unranked GA 76-74. Vandy had UT hangover.

So as much as I hate to do so, should I be cheering for TCU to beat WV? Would a WV increase Baylor's chances of taking the B12 title? They both beat us, but we have another shot against the froggettes.

Yes. We need TCU to win today if we want to have any realistic shot at winning the title outright.

After today, West Virginia's remaining schedule looks like this:

Oklahoma State (home)
UCF (away)
Cincinnati (home)

They could easily win those final 3 games to end the season, which would earn them a share of the title at a minimum (assuming they also win today against TCU).

They'd be 15-3, and we could do no better than tie that record ourselves (assuming we win out).

Simply put: We need WVU to pick up loss #4 today. And then we need to win in Lubbock on Wednesday, which would most likely set up a winner-take-all game in Fort Worth on 3/1.

While Baylor, TCU, and WVU still have trap games left on their schedules, they're all at home, and we should all be favored in each of those games:

West Virginia: Oklahoma State (2/21)
TCU: Iowa State (2/22)
Baylor: Kansas State (2/23)

So assuming we all handle business in those games, then we need WVU to be sitting at 4 losses, and both us and TCU to be at 3 losses going into our season finale.

#4 Texas lost to #5 Vandy 86-70. Only watched last couple of minutes of the game. I didn't see the post game, but supposedly Vic threw his team under the bus ( no surprise there). Comments like "team has no heart" and "weakest team I've ever coached". Rory sat again later in game. He can't stand that juggernaut ut lost to a private school that was league doormat for decades. He's definitely feeling the heat. All that aside, still think hornettes will be at least EE in tourney.

Yes, he repeatedly said they had "no heart" and called them the "softest team he's had in years" amongst a number of other things.

Good for him that the KSU AD is not his boss.

South Carolina downed LSU last night in Baton Rouge, 79-72.

Pretty intense game from start to finish, and LSU had their chances.

Unfortunately for them, FT's were their demise, as they went 14-23 (61%) from the stripe.

This included 2 consecutive misses by Flau'jae Johnson with less than a minute left, when they were down by 1.

It also doesn't help when you go 2-12 from behind the arc.

Just seems like South Carolina has LSU's number - they've won 18 straight in the series (with Dawn going 6-0 against Kim since she arrived in Baton Rouge).

Maybe my memory is bad, but I think we had FT problems when Kim was here. Historically I don't think either our men or women have been very good at it. Nice to see that this year's women's team seems to be better of late. Bella has really improved and even Buggs has been better lately Of course Scott can improve anyone's team FT percentage.

FTs have always been the achilles for a Mulkey lead team. I never could understand it. It was like players got worse from the charity stripe over the course of the year.

I started watching the Lady Bears in 2000, and I don't remember having been better than dead center of the conference in free throw shooting during that time.

I remember Mulkey once talking about how it didn't seem to matter what her approach was. Don't practice them much - low percentage for obvious reasons. Practice them more - the players psyche themselves out and shoot worse than they are capable of.

First of all, good to see you again, Bone Squad.

The 2019 NC win would have been a runaway if Kalani had made her free throws; an outstanding player in every other way.

But would have gone into overtime IF Agunbowale would have made her two free throws with just a sec or two left on the clock. And most likely ND would have won in OT with Cox out with injury and Smith out with fouls. It's very probable that LSU would have beaten SC the other night IF Johnson wouldn't have missed both free throws which would have given them a one point lead after trailing for so long. Not to mention they missed 9 total in the whole game. So many IF's in sports, it's hard to be a fan sometimes.

Yup.. Ifs are a huge part of the game. Hell you could argue Bu has 2 more woman's titles if not for the injuries to Wallace and DIDi.

2021 - Maybe.

2018 - Nah, we weren't gonna knock off Miss State or Notre Dame that year - even if Kristy had remained healthy - and especially not with Alexis Morris being the floor general (she was still a freshman at the time and had not matured enough to where she was gonna lead us to a title - she didn't get to that point until she was a 6th year senior at LSU).

Now had Kim stuck with Juicy at point after Wallace was injured in the West Virginia game, then we might have had a shot.

Juicy had one of her best performances ever when she was thrust into the point guard role after Wallace left that game. We were already short-handed due to Morris and Didi having found Kim's doghouse a few days prior, and were literally down to just 5 healthy players that game after the Wallace injury, IIRC (Juicy, Kalani, Lauren, Cohen, and Moon).

Juicy channeled her LaVega days and turned into an excellent floor general. We ran away from West Virginia in that 2nd half, and I left the arena thinking we had a legitimate shot at the Final 4 with Juicy running point the rest of the way.

We were way more methodical in our offensive sets in that 2nd half (way less running and gunning), and controlled the pace of the game. When you value every possession and cut down on turnovers, good things tend to happen.

Well, Kim didn't see it that way, Morris was all over the place in the Sweet 16 game against Oregon State, and that was the end of that.

If we win our last 3 games we probably still win the conference (as a co-champion).

The likelihood of this is low though. Our chances of winning in Fort Worth I'd put at about 25%. Kansas State is probably playing better than us at the moment. Glad that game is at home.

I don't know exactly how 3-way ties work but think tiebreakers have to be decisive. Texas Tech has a decisive tiebreaker over us, but TCU would be in any tie too (unless they lose to ISU), so then it wouldn't matter. I think Texas Tech will drop one of their last 3 games anyway (@Colorado, @Kansas, ASU). West Virginia doesn't have a decisive tiebreaker over us either. Seems like they'll win out (Oklahoma State, @UCF, Cincinnati).

We are 0-4 against the other 3 teams at the top. We will finish last in any tiebreaker scenario.

I agree. The way we are playing now, we will not beat TCU in Ft. Worth.

Well. Lucky for us, we won't have to worry about pesky tiebreakers at this point, since the chances of us winning in Fort Worth next Sunday are slim and none.

You're pretty optimistic - giving us a 25% chance in that game.

Cuz after tonight's beatdown, that number should be MUCH lower.

At least the good news is that TCU will get to celebrate their second consecutive title in front of us on their homecourt, instead of ours.

It's not about finishing last, one of the tied teams has to rise above the others, or else all tied teams are crowned.

At this point, I wouldn't even want to share the title, given how we've gone 0-4 against the other 3 teams, and have been thoroughly beaten in 3 of those 4 contests.

Finishing in a 4-way tie would just feel cheap.

Kinda like TCU claiming the 2014 football title with us when they lost the head-to-head.

First tiebreaker is head to head.

Assuming BU beats TCU and all 4 finish 14-4:

Tech would be 4-0 against TCU/BU/WV
TCU would be 3-2 against Tech/BU/WV
WV would be 1-3 against Tech/BU/TCU
BU would be 1-4 against Tech/TCU/WV

So the question is whether Texas Tech having single wins against TCU and WV is enough to be a decisive tiebreaker. If Tech was tied with only TCU or only WV it would not be enough.

Surprisingly a down year for LSU. Not sure if the top is just that much better or if the team is having trouble meshing. They have the talent to beat anyone on any given night. Not sure they can do it multiple times in a row. Lack the consistency of teams over the last few years. That said, this year will likely be all UCONN - that group is salty!!!!
