WACO, Texas – No. 14 Baylor women’s basketball (18-3, 7-1) demolished UCF last Wednesday evening and looks to do the same against the Houston Cougars (6-13, 0-8), who are looking for their first conference win. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Jan. 27. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.

Houston has struggled greatly since joining the Big 12, posting a 5-13 conference record in 2023-24 and a 1-17 conference record in 2024-25. Despite making a coaching change, Houston appears destined for its second straight sub-10-win season. The Cougars rank 250th nationally in adjusted offensive efficiency per Barttorvik, and have failed to reach the 70-point mark since Monday, Nov. 17.

Baylor should have no issues against the Cougars. Houston has yet to score 1.00 points per possession in a game all season. The Bears ought to make quick work of Houston before turning their focus to top-25-ranked West Virginia.

18-11 end 1. We continue to somewhat play to the level of our competition

Like a 20 pt lead to start the 4th. Houston heated up a bit in the 3rd or else the lead would be bigger

Houston making a game of it

We are up 11 with 4 and a half left

They are protecting the ball and hitting a lot of their shots. Banking in 3s, etc.

Houston cut a 22-point deficit down to 7 midway through the 4th, before we got a couple of baskets to push the lead back to 11.

We can't afford to be sloppy coming down the back-end of the schedule if we want to be conference champs.

I didn't realize until just the other day that Matthew Mitchell is the new coach at Houston.

For those of you who aren't aware, he led Kentucky for many years and is a very good coach (3 Elite 8's and 2 Sweet 16's on his resume).

So don't let Houston's record this year fool you.

He'll very likely have them being very competitive in the next year or two, which won't bode well for us.

Should that happen, that'll add one more potential thorn in our side moving forward (since it doesn't look like TCU is going anywhere).

During their run, UH threw in 4-5 wild shots of the kind you usually see in a 7th grade JV game, and they all went in. Finally during the last 5 minutes, those same wild shots quit falling.

I thought Ines has looked pretty good. She certainly has quickness. Her defense is very sticky and handsy. Can create turnovers, but if refs get picky, she could get some tacky fouls. Passing as CNC has stated is extremely good. Hasn't taken enough shots for this fan to gauge on that.

I am confused. If "on the bench" does that mean she has enrolled.....or was she just in the stands behind the team?

I didn't notice her, but from the context in the press conference, it sounded like she was seated with the team. I infer from that that she is now a Baylor student. Collen did say she was redshirting this season.

Was Lorena the one in the green hoodie on the bench? That was the only one that looked unfamiliar.

Yes. She was sitting on the bench with the team in a green hoodie and sweats.

Baylor student. Can practice with the team and sit on the bench with the team. Per CNC.
