So glad Texas lost!!!

Women's basketball officiating has overcorrected and needs to move back a bit. I used to yell "let them play" at the refs a lot. They'd call every bit of contact and even a lot of no-contact. (That last block by Betts would have been called a foul by most women's officials 15-20 years agonot that it should have been). Now it's looking a bit like football. The number of times someone gets knocked down with no call is a bit much.

Neither of the teams I saw tonight can beat South Carolina.

Said she didn't shake his hand before the game but he's wrong. There is video of it. Geno getting forgetful in his old age. He wouldn't be the first coach who coached a long time who went off the rails latter in their career. I'll never forget what Woody Hays did.

So to shed a little more light on the pregame handshake drama:

Geno's point of contention was that Dawn didn't meet at midcourt for the ceremonial handshake that takes place between coaches after the starting lineups are announced. He basically said he waited 3 minutes for a handshake that never occurred.

However, she did shake his hand (and hugged him) several minutes before the starting lineups were announced. In fact, she made sure to shake hands and hug all of the UCONN coaches in that moment.

So she might have forgotten about the ceremonial handshake, since she had already hugged it out with everyone moments prior - especially if she was giving her team final instructions before the tip. But this was hardly the worst thing that could have happened.

And I'm not sure why Geno would let that moment live rent-free in his head for 2+ hours, and not focus on coaching his team. But I suppose that's what makes all of us different.

I guess he's very particular about handshake protocol. In addition to this year, he apparently had to motion for Staley to shake hands before last year's game. And in the aftermath of the Miss State buzzer beater in 2017, he did a subtle motion to Vic Schaefer to come shake his hand right away. Even though Schaefer was probably still in shock in that moment.

Which is ironic, given he broke one of the biggest protocols of all, and walked off the court without shaking the hands of the South Carolina players.

In any case, I think a lot of folks have brought up reasons as to why Geno would act a fool in this moment.

1) To take the focus off of his team's horrific play, and to shift it elsewhere. And if that's the case, then it's worked to an extent, since all of the talking heads are discussing his 'end-of-game' antics.

2) Geno might have been thinking about retiring, and riding off into the sunset with back-to-back titles and a 56-game winning streak wouldn't have been a shabby way to leave the game.

But with the beatdown they just took, that dream obviously went out the window.

3) The frustration of losing a perfect season in the semifinals, yet again, got to him, and he simply lost his cool.

In either of those cases, there was no excuse for Geno's 'sore loser' type of behavior.
