STORY HIGHLIGHTS

Texas forward Rellah Boothe will be unavailable for postseason competition due to personal reasons, head coach Karen Aston announced Thursday.

This could have a negative impact for a team that lacks depth in the frontcourt. The 6-3 freshman from Bradenton, Fla., averaged 5.1 points and 3.6 rebounds in 19 games.

This marks the second time she has been suspended from the team. She missed seven Big 12 games between Jan. 10 and Feb. 3 with similar issues.

Last year Boothe was ranked by ESPN and the No. 1 forward in the country while playing at IMG Academy. She was the nation's No. 3 overall player, but has had trouble fitting in during her first year of college.

Texas (26-6) will open NCAA Tournament play as a No. 2 seed when it plays host to No. 15 Maine at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Erwin Center.

So did she take time off for personal reasons or was she suspended?

I don't see her staying at UT.

Transfers within the conference must sit two years, so I don't see that ever happening. Mulkey would never take on someone with such an attitude problem IMO.

Intra-conference transfers sit a year and lose a year of eligibility.That is a major disincentive to transfer to another Big 12 school.

Did Kim even recruit her? Usually when she doesn't recruit a highly ranked player it seems to be because they're selfish, won't play tough D, etc.

I would be curious if it had anything to do with her so visibly trying to kick Kalani in our last game. I don't really have any reason for thinking this, but I guess it is possible that Aston watched the replay.

Agree. We don't need her. I just don't like her attitude.

Come on. If she is unable to hack in at ut, she certainly hasn't anything to offer BU. Character and loyalty are so important to KM and the Lady Bears and that's the biggest difference in the team from Austin and us.

I didn't say that I hope she ends up playing for Baylor. I just said that I hope she straightens out whatever the "personal issue" is.

No thank you. "Personal reasons" usually spells trouble. I believe we have enough talent coming in at the wing position we will be fine.

Now, if Charlie or Sedona want to transfer from the "dark side" that would be better.

Ran her mouth when she signed, was out of shape all year, got swept by Baylor and now suspended again

Why would BU take UT rejects?

I was not aware of the double penalty for transferring within the conference. But let me add

1. Let's not call any student athlete a reject

2. Let's not lock anyone into their past mistakes

3, Let's nor underestimate the difference being under Kim would make compared to UT

4. Show just a tiny bit of grace in your board conversation.

Tough to replace someone who averaged a single/single (5 points, 3 rebounds) this season.

If any Lady Cow was suspended, I would have preferred it was Hosey. Aston sends her in for the hard fouls to deflect fouls away from Joyner-Holmes. Can't unsee the "common" foul against Kalani.

You should not read the internet. It is obviously too mean for you. She seems to be a punk. I would love to know what the issue is or what she did.

I think that Texas is going to have their hands full in the Sweet 16. I don't have my bracket in front of me, but as I recall, they are probably playing UCLA. McCarty is not as good as Canada in my opinion, and UCLA has some strength inside. I think we may see that the Pac 12 is a good conference over the next few weeks. The Texas fan board acts like they are a shoe in for the Final Four and predict that we won't make it due to our loss of Wallace. Seems we beat them without Wallace already, so not sure how they figure they still match up better than we do to make it to the FF.

I think they are probably better off without Boothe. After I watched the replay of her undisputed attempt to trip Brown going down court, I have no problems with what anyone says about her, although I am always very careful not to criticize another teams player. I doubt she will see another minute at UT without a character/maturity transplant.

I keep seeing about Boothe trying to trip Brown but I don't think I saw it during the game. Which quarter was it in?

1st quarter with 3:46 left. It's easy to miss on first viewing, but after going back it was clearly intentional. I have no idea if it is related at all to her "suspension" but it definitely shows her ongoing attitude problem.

And believe it or not, I watched with the mindset that it was incidental. But look at her eyes during the process. She was clearly intending to knock Brown down. It really pissed me off.

found it... you can watch a restream of the game on the big 12 website... i don't see that as very intentional... almost missable... and who saw her eyes?

I will give Aston an "attagirl" for dealing with Boothe. There is no doubt UT has some special personalities. Getting all those special personalities all on the same page can be difficult to near impossible.

I only saw her play a few times but not seeing why she was so highly rated. And I agree that the UT bigs seem out of shape. Strange that program would allow that.

The girl looked frighteningly good in the McD All-Star game as a senior. Was just effortlessly knocking down 3's from distance. If she gets her act together, she could definitely be a force.

Her attitude does appear to be a huge deterrent to her potential success, however. Those "blowhard" proclamations of "I'm going to win at least 2 or 3 NC's while I'm there" bs should be troubling to anyone taking her into their program. Just TOO cocky...
