Lady Bears advance to Sweet 16 with 80-58 victory over Michigan
WACO, Texas - The Baylor Lady Bears are headed back to the Sweet 16 after an 80-56 victory over the University of Michigan on their home court on Sunday evening.
Michigan (23-10) put up a fight in the first half, but the Lady Bears pulled away in the second half behind Lauren Cox, Kalani Brown, Juicy Landrum and Alexis Morris. The Lady Bears held Michigan scoreless for over four minutes in the third quarter and took a 63-44 lead to cruise to a 80-58 final.
Cox led Baylor with 18 points and 16 rebounds while Kalani Brown added with 16 points, 8 rebounds, 6 blocks and 4 assists. Freshman Alexis Morris finished with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Sophomore Juicy Landrum also finished with 17 points, while adding 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals.
Michigan center Hallie Thome was dominant in the first half going 9 for 9 for 18 points. In the second half, Brown asserted herself and Thome finished 11 of 18 for the game and 22 points. Katelynn Flaherty finished with 18 points on 6 of 20 shooting. All of Flaherty's points came from behind the three point line.
Baylor advances in the Lexington Bracket to face Oregon State on Friday.
