Ten Things: Lady Bears advance to National Championship

April 5, 2019

Baylor defeated Oregon in a great back and forth game and here are ten things about the game:

  1. Baylor’s defense beat Oregon’s offense
  2. Oregon was soft in the paint
  3. The officiating missed several moving screens on Oregon
  4. Patience on the offensive end allowed Baylor to pound the paint
  5. Lauren Cox with the drive down the lane to take the lead late and two free throws to seal the win
  6. Chloe Jackson having the knowledge to take the layup with Oregon hedging off the screen
  7. Kalani Brown’s pass to a cutting Didi Richards
  8. Didi and Juicy’s defense on Ionescu led to 6 of 24 shooting
  9. Oregon shot 36.8% for the game and 37.5% from 3, both well under season averages
  10. Next up, Sunday!

If you had told me we would hold them to 37%, I would've though we'd win by 15-20. We gave up too many offensive boards.

Of the three other teams in the Final Four, I think Oregon was the worst matchup for our Lady Bears. Not saying we'll win or that it will be a cakewalk, but I think we match up better with UConn and ND.

37% shooting from distance increases the probability of offensive rebounds.

True, but all season our opponents attempted a huge amount of treys and we were great at not giving up offensive boards.

The game was tied with :40 left. Chloe drives and score. Ducks can't answer. Lauren gets the rebound and hits two free throws. Game over.

Defense was the difference but looks like the Ducks were gassed at the end.

This was a gut check win.

#12: From Michelle Smith's tweet:

It's not that @OregonWBB has no answer for Kalani Brown. It's that there is no answer for Kalani Brown.
