Excerpt
"In an exclusive interview with High Post Hoops, Dallas Wings president and CEO Greg Bibb revealed Thursday afternoon that he does not have a deal offer he's willing to make at present for center Liz Cambage. He also explained just how close it has come to happening.

"There have been several times where I thought we had a deal done," Bibb said in a wide-ranging telephone interview about the team's recent acquisitions and trade discussions Monday afternoon. "Two times, at least, where I was rather confident we were heading to a resolution only to have things, for lack of a better word, fall apart at the eleventh hour."

The frustration from Bibb was evident, and reflects a landscape that hasn't allowed for the Wings to receive anything like equal value in a trade for a dominant player in her prime, though Bibb said he's spent the better part of the last three months trying. His priority is to get "equitable value" for the Wings, of course, but he is also eager to see Cambage land somewhere that makes her happy. It's where those two things conflict that the trouble starts.

Previously, High Post Hoops has reported that the Los Angeles Sparks had offered their 2019 first round pick, 2020 first round pick and center Maria Vadeeva in a deal for Cambage, with other teams involved for both salary purposes and to provide an ultimate destination for Vadeeva.

Though Bibb would not comment on the record regarding any current proposals, two sources familiar with the ongoing talks told High Post Hoops that the Sparks have actually lowered their offer from the one that was nearly completed in the days ahead of the WNBA Draft on April 10. For their part, a league source said the Sparks are unwilling to offer that deal in part because Dallas was unwilling to accept it for months leading up to the draft, and the Sparks believe Dallas' leverage has changed."

Hope they still do it. Kalani and Arike and Gustafson would be quite the rookie class!!

I agree. There are additional layers of interest by 3rd teams that could ultimately result in Kalani becoming a Wing. However, the overriding factor is that Liz Cambage currently states Los Angeles is her only destination ... otherwise, she will sit out the year.

Yes, Dallas really screwed up. They and the LA were not aware that Brown would be available when the Sparks picked. Picking up 6'7" Brown makes not acquiring 6'8" Cambage less painful. It would also have made that seventh pick much more desirable to Dallas. Dallas probably said they would accept the deal when Brown was still on the board. but LA rejected it. Brown holds more value to Dallas than the seventh pick would have before the draft.

The idea that Dallas wants to make Cambage happy out of the goodness of their hearts is total BS. They have to send her where she wants to go or she can always negate any trade just by sitting out. Cambage wants to go to LA so that really limited their trade options from the get-go. LA now has more leverage. They will probably now try to either substitute Lavender for Vadeeva or remove one of the first round picks from the offer. Dallas finds themselves in the same position that Chicago did when they got peanuts for Sylvia Fowles when they were limited by Sylvia to one team.

Of course they can tank this season for a higher pick, but lately, there has not been consensus top picks that would make a tanking a season worthwhile. Next year it might be Cox or Sabrina. WNBA teams do not have the luxury of tanking and losing income from loss of fans for even one year. I think either Dallas has to eat crow and get what is offered or watch Cambage sit out at least this year. Brown might still be a part of any trade, but she would be better off in LA.

Or Dallas could always get Dirk to grow his hair long and claim he always identified "als eine Frau".

"Three days after winning a national championship with Baylor in Tampa, Kalani Brown was in New York for the WNBA Draft, where she was selected by the Sparks with the seventh overall pick. This sends her cross country to Los Angeles. While Brown racks up frequent flyer miles, the Sparks will hope she can rack up some points and rebounds for them as a complement to Candace Parker and Nneka Ogwumike on the L.A. frontline.

Brown stands 6-foot-7, has a pro-ready body, great hands and an arsenal of post moves that helped her average 15.8 points on 61.4 percent shooting to help lead the Lady Bears to the national championship. The Sparks ranked last in rebounding last season (31.3 per game, 47.2 rebound percentage), which is something Brown can definitely help improve upon under first-year coach Derek Fisher."

Is Gustafson projected to play as a 4 in the WNBA? In our game vs. Iowa, I don't remember her getting the ball anywhere but the low block.

She most likely projects as a 4 in the W. She does have a face-up game and would struggle trying to consistently guard 5's at the next level.
