As the Baylor men’s team’s season fell short of the Elite Eight, the Lady Bears are headed to their seventh Elite Eight in eight years following Friday’s 97-63 victory over four-seed Louisville in Oklahoma City.

The No. 1 seed Lady Bears set the pace early propelled by six opening points from Nina Davis to keep building the lead getting Alexis Jones and Alexis Prince involved to hold a 25-9 lead through the first quarter. Following the break, the Cardinals got into the swing of the game, winning the second quarter 22-18 as Baylor struggled to contain their leading scorer Alia Durr who led the game with 5-of-10 three-pointers, knocking down two in the end of the half.

Kim Mulkey responded after halftime with a 29-14 third quarter getting Kalani Brown involved early with two blocks to spur a Baylor run as Davis kept adding to box score. Davis finished the night with a game-high 21 points while Brown and Prince also hit double digits. Kristy Wallace also came to play with 12 and two steals points while backup forward Beatrice Mompremier left her mark by Brown’s side.

Brown recorded her 11th double-double of the season posting 12 points and 12 rebounds while Mompremier crossed that milestone for the sixth time this season with 14 points and 13 boards. Together with Davis’ seven rebounds, they made up 32 of Baylor’s 52 rebounds compared to Louisville’s 36 total rebounds.

Louisville made another effort to keep its head above the water for the next quarter but Baylor was already at the finish line following the third quarter as the Lady Bears ran to their third consecutive win margin over 30 points.

With two-seed Mississippi State winning earlier in the day, Baylor will face the Bulldogs on Sunday night in hopes of the team’s first Final Four since winning the championship in 2012.
