New LSU women's basketball coach Kim Mulkey will earn about $2.5 million at the beginning of an eight-year contract, according to a signed term sheet between Mulkey and the school released Wednesday.
Mulkey's salary will increase every year to about $3.3 million by the end of the deal, which runs through 2029. The contract will need to be approved at LSU's next board of supervisors meeting.
For comparison, Mulkey will make roughly the same amount as LSU men's basketball coach Will Wade in her first year. Mulkey's salary is more than three times that of Fargas, who earned $700,000 annually in her final contract with LSU.

In a nutshell, 8 years/ $23.6 million without incentives. This may explain a lot. This deal would have been a very tough match for Baylor to counter, not including other incentives.

That said, here is a signed/executed copy of Kim's term sheet dated 4/26/21:

I doubt it. I also suspect LSU will be looking for a new coach before 2029. I'm with Party Bear on this.

I agree with you. If she wins a NC at LSU, she will be one and done. She will leave on a high note, but I highly doubt she lasts 8 years. I told someone the other day she will look to take them back to elite level and likely step away when she is ready to spend more time with family - 5 to 6 years.

No...go read her term sheet contract (see OP above). It's an 8 year deal. If she decides to leave early for any reason, she owe's LSU $2,000,000 within 30 days of walking out the door.

And like most buyouts that will be forgiven when/if the time comes. Not to mention, she will net about 12 million over the first 5 years of the contract, with much of her normal living expenses paid. She will be ore than happy to hand over $2 million if she wants to walk.

Just curious from a funding stand point. So the school pays her $400k per year and then the supplemental comes from boosters essentially (?). I'm guessing tax payer money pays the $400k - probably a cap of some sorts and then the delta is picked up by donors/corporations/sponsors/etc

John, I think you are pretty close with that logic. I believe it is related to the maximum salary cap for pension since she is an employee of the state of Louisiana. So they separate it out with a base of 400K. It's something along those lines.

Baylor was stupid for not matching that or beating it.

Sometimes money is not the issue. I doubt it was here. During my career I had several offers that offered more money, but turned them down because of other considerations. Money is just one factor and for those who are already well set, it isn't the deciding factor in their decision.

Kim is not putting her house in Waco on the market. She won't be there long.

It was not about money.

I think you're being delusional. She has wanted to come back to Louisiana. She knew it wouldn't be Louisiana Tech because they couldn't afford her and that conference is not competitive. She wanted the flagship college and the SEC but like she said the timing had to be right. So LSU gets a new AD and Fargus exits and BOOM there's the timing. This wasn't a Sunday decision. When they interviewed Kramer he said he'd known for days that she was leaving Baylor for LSU.

And if you believe Kramer on that, you're delusional. She told her team she had decided in the previous 24 hours. Kramer is selling a narrative that benefits Mulkey. He is also the one that started calling for the court to be named after her after the Griner NC. That interview was placed. Nothing more to it.

I'll bet she has some tenants hand-picked for the place.
