Unfortunately there are a handful of loyalists to the former staff who don't believe that folks are allowed to think for themselves and draw their own conclusions. They see their own opinions as facts but you aren't allowed to form your own opinions. Fortunately, the Ignore button works well and mostly eliminates the bother of seeing the nonsense.

One item mentioned several times concerns Colleen and staff having to repair relationships with the AAU-type programs' coaching staffs. Sounds like our recruiting ground was shrinking over time much like a business losing its referral base. Bodes poorly for the future, with an inevitable result. Gonna be a tough haul but it seems this staff is up to the challenge. Just takes time, especially freshening any poisoned well water. Sounds like there has been too much of that.

NIL isn't a single issue item.

Issue #1: the 5-10 players [not necessarily all top players] in a 3-4 year span who have huge social media followings and are looking to make big bank.

Issue #2: the 99.999999% of recruits who are looking for spending cash to buy clothes, dine out, get plane tickets, etc.

Baylor shouldn't worry about #1 [more problem than worth] but absolutely needs to have #2 fully funded.

The number of women in WBB that would make any significant sum off NIL is extremely low, especially compared to men's sports.

It would be interesting to see a registry of NIL money going to athlete's but, the NCAA is losing power because of the development of the NIL (among many other reasons, including "super conferences") and you may never know how much an athlete truly makes off NIL. I haven't seen too many headlines regarding a LARGE number of athletes making substantial money. Just the few top tier names are the ones truly reaping the benefits and, mainly in men's athletics.

However, I do believe that NIL "development" programs like the one Oregon just rolled out, will become a necessary part of recruiting (like beautiful campus facilities) and it is something that BU should look into in order to remain competitive in recruiting for the future in ALL sports.

NIL value and recruiting status only mildly overlap. Yes, some top players like Paige Bueckers and Hailey Van Lith are both top recruits and high NIL value. Most top recruits aren't. Janiah Barker basically has zero social media presence [and thus little NIL opportunities]. It may change with time, but currently maybe 1 of the Top 50 WBB recruits in any year has high NIL value.

WBB fanbases aren't going to be lining up to buy talent. The schools bleed huge amounts "as is". Occasionally a player will have a huge social media presence that leads to a big payday. Baylor can survive without those players. Baylor can't survive without the other 99.9999% who are simply looking for spending money. For the generational players: Cheryl Miller, Sheryl Swoopes, Lisa Leslie, Diana Taurasi, Brittney Griner, Maya Moore, Breanna Stewart…….schools/fans will create a one time fund.

FYI, this year's likely highest NIL value are the Cavinder twins at Fresno State……not exactly top recruits.

I think you're failing to think like an 18 year old, though. Reality will shake out for most players much like you have described. But if I'm a top level recruit, I'm probably thinking I'm going to be special when it comes to NIL opportunities as well. So I don't think it would be wise for a school to ignore that component. Have the structures in place and be ready to show what support is available that lends itself to those who can turn it into serious earning potential...then let fate handle it from there.

You are talking about a different item.

You are describing the NIL Support System which Baylor already has in place. Will it get built out more? Yes. But it already exists.

The discussion above is about a NIL guarantee…….. "we [the not school/school source] have contracts in hand for you to sign for $X". Think about the pledge that Miami scholarship FB players will be paid $5,000 each.

For WBB and Baseball, a market pay scheme will emerge for pot sweetening. Football & MBB will be a different animal……those sports are now the Wild West of buying players.
