Different versions of the same story sometimes make it difficult to turn the page, as many people here and elsewhere among the Baylor fan base had and still have a strong emotional connection to Kim Mulkey. The resentments stirred up by her departure beg for clarity, and most of us on the outside looking in are left trying to piece together the chronology of events in order to put the event to rest. The involved will not likely be satisfied, as indeed the history of the Art Briles narrative has shown, but those of us less directly associated with one view or the other would care less about the entire episode if we had information that confirmed or refuted the contradictory reports.

The comments by Caddywampus above seem to be factual and credible. More comments along those lines may surface in due time, but whether or not they do, this was useful in answering a question of chronology for me. If the precedent set by the much greater controversies emanating from the departure of Art Briles is to be credited, we have not seen the last of this one, either.

It makes sense that LSU contacted Kim first, and it also makes sense that Kim left on her own accord and could have stayed at BU if she wished to do so. Unless her salary was going to be cut or her staff reduced, etc., there's no reason for her to have left. Don't give me the line that Mack or Livingstone were mean to her...please. She had worn out her welcome despite all that she had done, and she needed a change. Turn the page.
Kim will tell you. And she has openly shared it many times. Baylor was very good to her. She won a train load of championships at Baylor and Baylor paid her very well for it. She loves Baylor and always will. She has a lot of friends in Waco and within the Baylor community that she views like family. She made it very clear to LSU that she had to remain available to her family and friends in Waco that she was leaving behind. LSU is giving her $80,000 a year in personal travel just to keep Waco available to her whenever she desires. So keeping her house in Waco goes beyond just her daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. She is loved in Waco and likely hasn't paid for many meals in Waco for many years. All that said, LSU offered her a different and expanded opportunity for a place that she also loves. And is still her home. Always has been. Where many old friends and her mother still reside. Her duties will go far beyond being just being a WBB coach at LSU. Think of it as an LSU ambassadorship for the State of Louisiana and 4 million loyal followers of the athletic program. (If you're looking for a turning point in what happened, this is likely it...where Baylor leadership got out-foxed by LSU's Woodward offering Kim an expanded role). Kim is personal friends with the Governor, John Bel Edwards. And this list goes on and on. Kim just turned 59 years of age. She's only lived in 2 states her whole life. The LSU job opened up at what will likely be the last realistic time that will allow her to make such a significant change. To her, it was the right time...and likely the last time she would get the opportunity. So, LSU offered a very sweet and expanded situation to Kim...and she took it. It is as simple as that.

Setshot, I LOVED the John Sedgwick quote/story....classic.

My analogy is, if you are a New England Patriots fan, you cheer for the Patriots. If you are a Tom Brady fan, you cheer for the Buccaneers. Similar vitriol and regret in New England but at this point it cannot be changed and so, I choose to support Baylor and wish Kim the best of success at LSU but, have moved on to support BU.

I support Baylor, don't wish KM good luck, but very much appreciate what KM did here.

I'd really love it if we could keep every thread from devolving into talking about Kim. I know we all have a lot to process and discuss, but having a thread talking about recruiting and new offers doesn have to become a KM thread. Please. Start or add to another thread. Most of, if not all the trolls are gone. Thanks

Mulkey GONE and is no longer working to make BU successful. She is focused on LSU and we need to focus on BU. Period

Caddy, that makes some sense, but could you explain exactly what you mean by "expanded role?" She's the head WBB coach, are you suggesting she also serves as Assistant AD, or something, or is it that "ambassador" thing you talked about as an "expanded role?" Not sure why Baylor wouldn't want as many ambassadorships as they can have, heck, I'm an ambassador in my neck of the woods, damn near everything I own has some connection to Baylor, and I share that love as often as possible.

Kim chooses not to elaborate...but briefly alludes to it at about the 1 minute mark. Easier to just start at the beginning and listen to the first 3 minutes or so. Here you go:

Kim will soon discover her role is more limited. Football and baseball are supreme. Wbb not so much.

Thanks, Caddy. I really didn't see anything there that discussed an "expanded role," but maybe I missed it. Fred, I'd really like to agree with you here, but if that's true, LSU just spent a $*** pot full of money for a marginal sport, surely they can't be that dumb - I mean, that would be Aggy-like! I thought the Ags cornered the market already on overspending on coaches.

On why she accepted the job per her conversation with the LSU AD: "Scott (Woodward) and I were on the same page, in that it wasn't just about basketball...It was about a lot of things that he thought I could help him with, not just at LSU, but in the State of Louisiana." --KM

If you know anything about Kim personally, you know she is a fighter for what she believes in...and she has an intense desire to make the extra difference. I obviously do not know the specifics, but I am told that much of it has to do with fundraising for the university, along with other causes within the state. Keep in mind, she is a state employee. So there is a diplomatic edge that she brings to LSU as it relates to the rest of the state. The only real competition for the team sports revenue dollar in Louisiana that can compare to LSU is the New Orleans Saints. That's it. So it is a much different situation than one like Baylor. Put Kim at an 8 top table of boosters in a 4 star restaurant for 2 hours and you have money. Anyone that has ever had any private time with her knows she is a gas to talk to. You NEVER know what you are going to get. But it will be the truth. Raw and brutal. And they love it.

They will soon find out tha KM is not the best at healing language in regard to their "house on dire" indiscretions in the athletic department. She will soon be marginalized. This whole deal is a big mistake, but time will tell... they told Kim she was going to be superwoman to get her there, but let's see how the service now goes after the sale. BU gave her everything, good luck getting that out of football boosters. We will see... but I truly feel she and BU will both regret the way this played out. Cooler heads and more thoughtful responses on both sides could have avoided this. I wish Kim happiness, because she has not looked happy at Bu lately and even appeared to be physically ill at times. Restart. Good luck. But me thinks this was a blunder.

Man I really hope we can get Samantha back on board with Baylor. She is the real deal and just exactly the type player Baylor needs, and someone who should thrive in CNC's offensive system.

Averaging 22 points and 10 rebounds as a junior (correction: sophomore) in high school. Enough said...

Agree. IMO...BU is more of a fit now to Sammie's game than before.

That was as a sophomore.
