1. Heffner - If he loses in the next hour, you offer him the job tonight and make him say no.

1A. Nate Thompson - One of the Top young assistant coaches in the country. He is currently the Top Assistant and Recruiting Coordinator at Arkansas. Offer him the head job at Baylor. If he wants to hire his brother Mitch as Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Baylor, that would be gravy.

2. Rob Vaughn - Current head coach at Maryland. He is from the state of Texas. Played at Kansas State.

3. Josh Elander - Current hitting coach at Tennessee. One of the hot young names in coaching. Played at TCU. He is from the state of Texas.

Thoughts?

Seems like a great list to me
I'd put Vaughn as 1

Let's move past Mitch. New blood, younger and more up on today's baseball game and how it is played. iMO.

Heefner has been at DBU for years and has turned dorm multiple offers. I'd say find out if he's be willing to leave but certainly have another solid plan in place.

Heffener's son is 3rd base at DBU. He was MVC freshman of the Year. He built DBU into perennial contenders. They are moving to AAC from MVC next year. They beat TCU twice, split wit OK St and OU. Beat several teams in the current playoffs. But lost 4 of last 5 games. I think he has too many irons in the fire to leave now. He is to Dbu what Arranda is to BU. Baseball is the biggest game on campus. All other sports are division II..

His 2013 season worries me..that was DBUs one year in a real conference when they were in the WAC.

Big 12 is a huge step up.

MCC has 9 players coached by Mitch playing on teams in the reginals and you think he is not up on today's baseball.

Mitch is an outstanding evaluator and recruiter. And his on the field success is outstanding. And he knows Texas. He is worthy of serious consideration.

Oh yeah…….he still has many Baylor ties and fits the culture.

1) I do not think the game has passed Coach Thompson by in any way at all. Community College baseball is very competitive.

2) Younger coaches can be viewed as a positive to recruits. If you are a successful established coach at your school, as Thompson is at MCC, it doesn't matter nearly as much. If you are trying to give a team a potential recruiting edge during a rebuild, it may.

For those wondering about Thompson's age (another thread on this forum) my math puts him at 57 based on his bio stating he started college in 1983.

If Mack is true to form, it won't be someone on this list.

I've brought the name of Kevin Brooks on here before and not trying to pump him up. Just wondering why someone like him would not be considered and a JUCO coach would. Multiple trips to D2 CWS, runner up last year and at is there again this year.

Yes actually. But the choice is not up to me. Looking to the future. Not the past. Agree to disagree

If Mitch is so worthy...why is he not a head coach now in the NCAA? You all seem to know everything!
