Hearing from a source something tragic happened with Melissa Jones ('11). Anyone know what's going on or can link to an article?

I don't have a link but was told by a very reliable insider source that Melissa committed suicide Friday night.

One of the toughest and grittiest players to ever suit up for the Baylor WBB team. Prayers out to her family if this is true.

She was one of my favorite players during her time on some of Mulk's great WBB teams.

She had a lot of struggles that I won't go into here. Just a sad sad deal all the way around.

Wish we just had confirmation, in an obituary or similar document, of her death. Seems odd that no one is picking up the story of her death regardless of cause. Death is public information with death certificate? Like birth, marriage and divorce? She was the very best all out player anytime, anywhere! So sad. Prayers for her family!

One of my all time favorite players for the Lady Bears. Sad news if true.

It's true unfortunately, I confirmed it with multiple sources. Not everyone publishes an obituary on the time schedule we want.

Rachel Allison, my daughter who played from 2005-2009, found out in Australia where she lives and reached out to me. This is awful news.

Rachel along with my wife and I want to send our love and prayers to the family. It was an honor for Rachel to share a court with her. It is extremely sad news for us. You spend time with the players and families of your daughter's teammates, getting to know them well. We all share a lot of experiences while they are playing together.

She was a friend beyond what I deserved. Heartbroken she's gone. She deserves so much more than this thread of speculation and hopefully in time she gets it.

Not intending to be critical of any post here. Grateful this triggered me to check in in some way.

Hate that I learned about it by this thread. Hopefully Baylor makes a statement soon and celebrates her memory well.

She was special beyond she ever realized.

I was at the game in Norman in 2011 when she hit her head on the court. None of us in the sizable BU contingent there had any idea the severity of it until we were visiting with the team after the game. One wonders if somehow the concussion, or the after effects dealing with the vision loss, caused something that contributed to this.

I am so sorry to read this. MJ was so much fun to watch play the game. She represented Baylor so well. By all accounts, she was a jewel.

We had her over to our house for dinner a few times after she graduated. Usually followed by some hoops in the driveway. I remember one time in particular when we prayed around our kitchen island for her regarding her head and vision injuries. Sweet and passionate soul. She'll be missed by us all.

Kim Mulkey told KWTX Melissa was a player she'll never forget who left her mark on the program, the community and her as a coach.

"Melissa Jones left her mark on Baylor University, not just women's basketball. She was loved by the entire Waco community. Everything she did for us was full speed," Mulkey said.

"She played the game the way every player shouldalways had energy, played hard, and was a great leader. Her teammates respected her because she represented everythingher effort, her caring, her knowledge and her toughness were unmatched. She was the "glue" that kept the team together good times and bad."

I hate hearing this. She was one of my all-time favorite players. One of the things I loved was it was obvious that she really loved being a Baylor student, not just an athlete on an elite team.

Rachel, mentioned above, was another favorite of mine. Loved the Southern accent.

I am crying inside and just can't believe this tragedy has occurred. SHE was absolutely my most favorite Lady Bear. I feel so privileged to have been able to see her play. Just loved her to death.

Please Lord, put your arms around her family. Melissa was a beautiful soul and the world was a better place with her in it.

She struggled post Baylor and the transition from being an highly revered athlete to a regular person. I'm not sure her injury played a part. I know she had a hard time holding down a job. There was a time i ran in the same circles as her. Very sad for the Jones family. My prayers for her brothers who she was close to along with her Mom.

The picture on the bottom left speaks to how I think of her, a better person than she was a player. And, she was a great player.

My daughter played HS ball while Melissa was at Baylor. She showed up at a game one time and visited with several of the girls on the team. They all thought the world of her and the parents of the players did as well for her taking the time to make herself available to the girls.

My all-time favorite bear.
