Baylor Softball’s Govan Named Big 12 Player of the Week
IRVING, Texas – Baylor Softball’s Shaylon Govan was named the Big 12 Player of the Week, announced by the conference Tuesday afternoon.
This recognition marks the first Big 12 player of the week award for the Bears since the 2018 season, when the Bears had four honored.
Govan helped lift Baylor to a perfect 5-0 record last week, including a win over then-ranked No. 21 Maryland. The native of Katy, Texas, hit .571 with three home runs and 10 RBIs last week. One of her homers was a three-run shot that lifted the Bears past Maryland and a first-place finish in the Baylor Invitational.
The sophomore totaled 18 total bases and a 1.286 slugging percentage, which placed her atop the conference leaderboard for the week. Govan currently leads the Big 12 with 29 total RBIs on the season and leads the country with her 2.07 runs batted in per game.
