WACO, Texas (KWTX) With every punch, take down and arm bar Hailey Cowan moves closer to championship gold.
"The relationships that you encounter, there's nothing like getting in there with someone and hitting each other in the face," Cowan said.
An intimate sport that caught her eye at an early age.
"My dad watched a lot of UFC fights and I would peek over the couch and look because I didn't know if I was allowed to watch," Hailey said.
"Finally one day he was like, do you want to watch? And I remember watching GSP (Georges St-Pierre) fight and I remember saying I want to be that guy -- except I want to be a girl."
After graduating Midway High, Cowan was a two time All-American Gymnast for Baylor.
But for the past three years she has been training off and on at Blitz Sport in Robinson.
"My athleticism is probably my strength because I'm still so new to the sport I'm still developing my skills I'm still developing technique," Hailey said.
After last weekend Hailey "All Hail" Cowan is 1-0.
"I hit her with the right, not sure if it was the hook or jab, everything happens with a little fast in there," Hailey said.
"But it bloodied her nose up and I really didn't know at the time it was really bloody. A few seconds later I ended up landing a round house kick to the head and blood splatters in everyone's drinks, all over everyone that's in the front rows faces, their phones.
Now that she's had a taste of victory, she's trying to climb the ranks to become the top female fighter in the octagon.
Her next fight is in November.
