Gotta think most supporters for 3rd-on-down will fall to Desantis if/when they drop out.

Ron DeSantis / Tim Scott would be a tough ticket to beat.

If Republicans nominate anyone other than DeSantis they deserve to lose.

Yup. If they can do no better than a re-tread loser, then they deserve it.

Unfortunately, Trump still has a significant number of bumpkins who will support him no matter what. As long as he continues to own the libs, it doesn't matter if he will get his clock cleaned in a general election.

Would have the same result and give Dems the White House. Trump just may do it out of arrogance and spite.

Very unfair to assume he would only do it out of arrogance and spite. You're completely overlooking greed (the chance to bleed more money from his followers) and desperation (the hope it will keep him out of prison a while longer).

Biden's been president for two years. Why is Trump not in prison yet?

He's got the full weight of the Justice Dept. How many more years will it take to "find" evidence?

For what will he go to jail?

Contrary to what many here believe, the DOJ isn't in the business of rigging elections and doesn't want to be perceived that way. The fact that Trump was a likely candidate in 2024 was surely one of the things holding them back.

Actually Sam, I mostly agree with you here. Except for the prison part. If the DOJ sends Trump to prison, Joe Biden should be euthanized for treason. This double standard crap has to stop.

Hard to delineate all the fallacies woven in that. Reality is, he can't legally profit from political fundraising, and it's not at all clear how he personally benefits more from 3rd party spite that would make his brand smaller rather than larger.

The 3rd party play only makes sense if he's actually trying to win the WH and/or build a true 3rd party.

He's been very supportive of the party. It's why his support is so resilient.

While I disagree with your assessment (because I believe that if they had evidence, they'd hammer him), I certainly appreciate your response.

...and the Governor, and the Congressional delegation, and I'm sure a who's who of lesser known names......

It's important that he is able to hold such a show in an important primary state. The order of the primaries matters, and it will matter a ton if DeSantis runs (a near-certainty). FL is the 4th contest and DeSantis should smoke the field there which reduces pressure on him to win any of the first three (IA, NH, SC), and adds pressure on Trump to not just win at least two of the first three, but win them convincingly. He shouldn't expect to have trouble in IA or SC, and this event in SC is important in that it demonstrates that he is executing where he needs to execute and that no one who could hurt him is willing to publicly abandon him.

Lots of time to go, and lots of things could happen. But both candidates are doing what they need to do, small steps, checking boxes, etc..... Trump in particular has an edge in that he is formally in and has no other responsibilities. DeSantis still has a state to run and that will afford him some hurdles as well as opportunities.

If both of them do what they should, we will have a horse-race after FL.

Yeah because it has a proven record of show raids to return overdue library books, suppressing damaging information to one candidate, leaking disinformation to the media, and sponsoring Russian-funded fake news to undermine an incoming president. Yeah, never does that.

Me too. There will be a reckoning for Trump, Biden, the CDC, the FDA, and the DOJ. ESPECIALLY after giving big pharma immunity and them making and marketing a dangerous product.
