I think those maps are "better" if you take the red and blue off of them and show population, then overlay the red/blue

not as bad as i thought it was going to be. the eyes don't lie though.

sad part is that young kids should not even know about politics. let them be kids and worry about whats on the lunch menu that day.

When I was a kid, I knew who won the election and who my parents wanted to win and that's about it.

We didn't sit down and have a safe space to talk about it, we just carried on and acted like kids.

Kids should not have an emotional investment in politics until they are at least 16. It's not good for the mental health.

I'm going to make an educated guess that Donald "The Nazi" Trump got higher voter turnout among black and Latino men than any other GOP establishment candidate.

He's not doing a very good job at this white supremacy.

I was in grade school when Reagan was elected. Every kid in the nation knew about that election. The country was going through a horrible time. Horrible economy. Long gas lines. No patriotism. Cold War.
In 1980, everything changed. It was a nation wide celebration. Lee Greenwood wrote the song. America was coming out of a long nightmare.
2024 is starting to feel a bit like that. I think grade school kids should be encouraged to celebrate life we did in the 1980s. I agree that this lady is wrong... but she is a Harris supporter... what do you expect? Her kids are lucky to still have their genitals. The defeat of her beliefs & values is what we should all be celebrating.

they can't help it. Liberals have always thought they were morally superior to conservatives, because they cared more. The various critical theory ideologies afford academic imprimatur to affirm that perception as a reality. That's why they can stand on stages and screech such hate to adoring crowds and call it tolerance. They really do believe their opponents are deplorable/garbage, and therefore they are entitled to engage in "repressive tolerance" to protect democracy.

Problem is, repressive tolerance is just "intolerance."
Liberals, as Lanny Davis says, have become controlling scolds. And they get so much confirmation bias from the media, they have a hard time perceiving how out of touch they really are.

Excellent analysis except he repeats the very common political mislabeling.

liberalism = limited government, free markets, individual liberty with moral responsibility (including 1A & 2A), rule of law, federalism, etc. The modern Left is the opposite of all this.

fascism = that variety of socialism that will allow you to keep your private property (home, farm, business, etc) but burden you with government rules, regulations, & mandates so that your property rights are barely discernible. They are very willing to abuse power to persecute people with the most insane excuses. In essence, they are power hungry bullies. They are often petty & incompetent. They gave double standards so that their allies get away with all kinds of horrific crimes while their opponents are crucified for the most minor offenses & bogus crimes.

Using these more accurate definitions, who are the true liberals & who are the true fascists?

[In today's New York Times, David Brooks shrugs and says, "Welp." Excerpt:
    Quote:

The Democratic Party has one job: to combat inequality. Here was a great chasm of inequality right before their noses and somehow many Democrats didn't see it. Many on the left focused on racial inequality, gender inequality and L.G.B.T.Q. inequality. I guess it's hard to focus on class inequality when you went to a college with a multibillion-dollar endowment and do environmental greenwashing and diversity seminars for a major corporation. Donald Trump is a monstrous narcissist, but there's something off about an educated class that looks in the mirror of society and sees only itself.
As the left veered toward identitarian performance art, Donald Trump jumped into the class war with both feet. His Queens-born resentment of the Manhattan elites dovetailed magically with the class animosity being felt by rural people across the country. His message was simple: These people have betrayed you, and they are morons to boot.

Donald Trump was right, and is right. Brooks's column is not bad, but if it sounds familiar, it's because he wrote pretty much the same column after Trump's 2016 victory. Excerpts:

    Quote:

Populism of the Trump/Le Pen/Brexit variety has always been a warning sign, a warning sign that there is some deeper dysfunction in our economic, social and cultural systems. If you want to take that warning sign and dismiss it as simple bigotry, you're never going to pause to understand what's going on and you will never know how to constructively respond.
Finally, it seems important to be humbled and taught by this horrific election result. Trump's main problem in governing is not going to be some fascistic ideology; his main problem is going to be his own attention span, ignorance and incompetence. If he's left to bloviate while others are left to run the country and push through infrastructure plans, maybe things won't be disastrous.
The job for the rest of us is to rebind the fabric of society, community by community, and to construct a political movement for the post-Trump era. …
Trump's bigotry, dishonesty and promise-breaking will have to be denounced. We can't go morally numb. But he needs to be replaced with a program that addresses the problems that fueled his ascent.
After all, the guy will probably resign or be impeached within a year. The future is closer than you think.

    Well.

I very much doubt David, a friend and a good man, will do any better learning the lessons of Trump's victory this time than he did last time. The view from inside the Washington elite bubble is simply too constricting. And, as I've said before, if you think that The New York Times (to which I subscribe) can be trusted to reliably inform you what this incredibly diverse country called America is like, you're going to keep being shocked by things like this week's vote.

I read everything that Tyler Austin Harper writes at The Atlantic, because though his leftist politics are very different than mine, he is as smart as hell, and I usually learn something. In today's bit, TAH says that for all her faults and he lists them Kamala Harris was likely doomed from the start … because of Joe Biden. Excerpts:
    Quote:

Biden's inability to see his own limitations handed [Trump] the White House once more. Nobody bears more responsibility for Trump's reascension to the presidency than the current president. This failure lies at his feet.
    More:
    Quote:

The idea that Americans would vote for a man who they overwhelmingly thought was too old and cognitively infirm stretched reason to its breaking point. And yet Biden and his enablers in the Democratic Party doubled down on magical thinking. This was a species of madness worthy of King Lear shaking his fist before the encroaching storm. And like Lear, what the current president ultimately raged against was nature itselfthat final frailty, aging and declineas he stubbornly clung to the delusion that he could outrun human biology.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg, too vain to retire and allow Barack Obama to appoint her successor, made the same mistake, if you'll recall.

I genuinely hope that the Democrats sort this out among themselves. We need a reliable and sane opposition party. But I don't think they can. They have gotten so ideologically far out on a limb, demonizing anybody who questions radical dogmas about gender, race, or anything else that progressive activists care about, that they have cut off the epistemic limb behind them. If you doubt it, scroll social media and see how many leading lights of the Left are saying the real problem is that Americans are RACIST and SEXIST. They've even taken to calling blacks Hispanics who voted Trump racist or sexist! They would have to be, for the model of the world leftists have constructed to continue making sense.

Last night I participated in a post-election analysis panel at the Danube Institute. My friend Peter Boghossian, a left-wing atheist who is one of the smartest and most dogged enemies of wokeness there is, gave a scorching warning to the audience. He said that the woke who run institutions aren't going anywhere, and they aren't going to learn a damn thing from what happened to them. They are going to double and triple down on the Resistance. Now is absolutely not the time for we who are grateful for the election result to let down our guard, said Peter. The real fight is just beginning.
He's right. The illiberal leftists who control most American institutions have treated dissenters with authoritarian contempt. These people must be removed from positions of authority, whenever they can be, and their power either taken away or blocked. Enough is enough.

Colbert, like too many others, don't realize that the US is a republic & not a democracy. Many on the Left, naturally, don't care about the distinction and might deliberately lie because of the common ignorance. When they say such things about "democracy" what they really mean is the "Democrat Party".

In that sense, he is correct: most Americans don't care for the Democrat Party because it is our enemy. It does nothing for us but does a lot of evil things to us:

    -persecution & slander
    -censorship
    -electoral fraud to steal elections
-destroying much of our economy with Bidenflation
-perpetrating a massive crime wave by defunding police departments & facilitating an invasion by illegal aliens
-attacking our children by mass murdering them in the womb & mutilating their bodies for the trans cult
-harming all Americans with the idiotic climate cult & Green New Deal based on junk science & imposed unconstitutionally

    and so on

Too often they are very evil.

You cannot lecture on Democracy when you ran a candidate that DIDNT EVEN HAVE TO PARTICIPATE IN A PRIMARY! (Imperial you, obviously).

The irony, of course, being that she almost certainly would NOT have won the primary and literally ANY other candidate would have given them a better chance.

I'm actually shocked the Trump campaign didn't make it a central part of their messaging. A montage of the "left" saying Democracy and showing a hand picked Harris getting 0% in 2020 before dropping out or getting destroyed by Gabbard.
