SI going other has nothing to do with their swimsuit issue. It never got any traction as an online publication. Very few publications can survive without that.

The desire to blame everything on "leftist socialists" and "wokism" is just bizarre. If anything. SI's death is just a market economy at work.
Claiming it has nothing to do is wrong.

It might not be the SOLE reason but it is conencted.

Their problem started 20+ years ago as people started getting more sports from online sources and ESPN started doing more than just sportscenter.

As those sources started doing more of the type of stories that SI used to do their subscribers dropped.

Then as they started going political/woke it kept dropping doing stories on people not connected to sports, social issues, etc.

but if you look at charts of their number of subscribers there has been a rapid decline since they started putting plus size models on the cover and an even sharper decline since they have gone full woke the last 5 years.

So again it is not the only reason but it is one of the several that killed it.

Can anyone site even one example of a corporation or business entity that went woke and it demonstrably improved their market share or business? Shoot - how about one example where it didn't severely damage them at best?

Define what going woke means.
A largely extremist dysfunctional movement often espousing virtue signaling over common sense & hostile defense of the indefensible over discourse. More aligned with hate than compassion or empathy.

To declare a social injustice has occurred even when facts show otherwise

This sounds like your & Trump's defense of Jan 6

"defense of the indefensible over discourse. More aligned with hate than compassion or empathy.

To declare a social injustice has occurred even when facts show otherwise"

So instead of admitting you were wrong by claiming that SI going under has nothing to do with the swimsuit issue you want to argue definitions?

Good definition of what the woke movement is. As far as defining "going woke" I would merely add it's the willful act of deliberately and demonstrably kowtowing to the woke movement (as you defined it). Some obvious examples include Anheuser Busch, Target, Disney, and Sports Illustrated.

Now, back to the question about any examples of where going woke has produced anything other than negative consequences(??).

When they started screwing up the swimsuit edition, you knew this would eventually happen.

Wow!, that they can make her face look this pretty, shows the miracle of proper makeup, hair style and coloring, lighting, and artful posing.

With no makeup she does not have a pretty face.

No doubt she has a great fit body though.

at least she is
1) not obese
2) not a man

that's improvement!

If I recall from many years ago, most of SI's annual net profit was from that one annual issue. The number of ads in it was ridiculous. It sold for a premium on newsstands where the margin was even high.

No doubt the Internet (digital) played a part in the decline. But horny men weren't going to buy a magazine with an obese women in a swimsuit on the cover.

If there is one thing women hate, it is men enjoying themselves w/o them!

That's why the SI swimsuit issue had to start featuring "real' women...to make women feel less insecure.

Of course, you never hear it the other way. There is no male outrage that the Bachelor contestants don't have enough fat, bald, poor guys featured.
