Not me.
Don't need any houses burned.

The guy is talking about forcing people to serve the state in occupations they don't want to do instead of letting market wages determine allocation of labor, but please tell me more about his Conservative / Not-at-all-Socialist ideals and credentials. I am genuinely interested.TWD 1974 said:Interesting you say that. Sunak is Prime Minister representing the Conservative Party In England. His former Hedge Fund associates and Goldman Sachs associates would be surprised at your claims of socialism for him.BearN said:They are socialist already. It won't be popular but I would be all for mandatory service for 2 years.
OK then let's start with retired old white guys.
Otherwise there will be more burning, looting and then the inevitable court cases over turning the entire program.
When you signing up Kai? Expect u to be at the front of the line.
If dragged into this pipe dream 2 year service program, I could physically cut it. As in this minute.
Unlike the majority of our hopelessly fat, bunch of video game heroes
You know nothing of most people on here. Don't get how someone can speak with such certainty about what they do not know. First signal to not take seriously.
You do know that most 2 year service is for 18-20, right,? Nobody wants our old asses, no matter how supremely fit you are. Get it, supremely fit, rich businessman, rugged individual, perfect family, every bit the international man of mystery. What all aspire to be ...
Now if we can get over the ***** measuring, would you like to discuss policy or continue bragging and insulting?
A. The whole point is that a mandatory 2 year 'service' program is doomed to failure. Very few are even remotely interested in serving the country and even fewer would willingly be drafted into such a program.
B. The only people with the time and possibly the resources to serve would be the older Americans. But the DATA shows that approximately 70% of adult Americans are FAT or OBESE. So it's a safe bet 70% of this bunch of internet geniuses are in the same condition.
C. Yes, I am fit. Work out 5 days a week and watch what I eat.
5'10" 175 lbs. Travel whenever my grandsons let me.
D. Not rich by my standards. In my world 'rich' begins at 20 million and I'm not there. However am very comfortable and lucky. Our family is strong due to my financial generosity and the unending emotional support of everyone by my wife of 43 years.
E. Not an international traveler any longer. Have seen much of the world and most of it is filthy and horribly overcrowded. Unfortunately the filth is now coming to our border so looking at other options. Possibly Spain or Portugal.
F. Really wish you would simply put me on ' ignore' as I can't fix what ails you. Don't have the time or patience and God knows you don't have the intellect in any case.
Have a wonderful day.

To laugh at this is foolish, this is where it is going. China is a big proponent. They do not believe they have to invade the US, just use an area denial strategy and keep the US out of where they want to attack. Drone delivered mines, etc... The submersibles we are seeing them in Port security.
Are they? Let's look at WW2, was everyone ready for Germany's blitzkreig and the speed that the Germans moved? Germany only lost because Hitler was greedy and made stupid decisions, he could have stopped at the low countries and reenforced.EatMoreSalmon said:FLBear5630 said:Could be? Who knows. This sounds like pre-WW1 talk.
It assumes the enemy isn't doing the same countermeasures.
Both sides will be knocking the other out until there will be actual people fighting and dying on the front.
I agree. The problem with the Chinese is that you do not know what their "long game" is to achieve their goals. Based on their actions, space will play a large role in whatever they do. Not just satellites, but manned fighting and non-nuclear technology that is just as destructive such as kinetic weapons.Oldbear83 said:
The next major war is going to surprise a lot of people. WW1 was not what the 'experts' predicted, and neither was WW2. The Cold War certainly played out in a way almost no one expected, and for a duration unanticipated. The 'War on Terror' also veered from expectations.
We have already seen some hints on how a new war could take shape. The use of weaponized drones in Ukraine showed great success against tanks, for example, demonstrating a new option for asymmetrical warfare, while Israel's campaign in the Gaza territory demonstrates how I3 capabilities can create ground supremacy conditions for an advanced force.
In both WW1 and WW2, technological advances changed the shape of the war, although industrial capacity remained a critical factor in a country's ability to prosecute the war, let alone win. But the Korean and Vietnam conflicts demonstrate the limits of tech advantage in a war, as does the occupation stage of the Iraq/Afghanistan conflict. Assuming the next major war is non-nuclear, we should expect any US-Sino conflict (the most likely) to last the better part of a decade and be ruinously expensive in cost.
Ironically, China scares me less than Russia for several reasons.FLBear5630 said:I agree. The problem with the Chinese is that you do not know what their "long game" is to achieve their goals. China has fallen into the late-Soviet condition of factions within its Politburo, and has faced a number of crises in the past 12 years which either escaped much notice in the West or which have largely been forgotten, including a regional outrage following the 2012 earthquakes in Southwest China and the 2015 stock market crash.
China has a large military but they have not used it overtly pursue almost any global aim of theirs, including (for now) the Taiwan issue. They have so far been satisfied with the use of soft power and socio-economic influence abroad in places like Central Africa, post-2021 Afghanistan and Chile while enforcing the jackboot at home. This has its own ramifications, but they are coming for us primarily in GDP and raw resources (which can of course lead to war, but it is not their overt aim). And Russia I think is too corrupt, too intertwined with the West economically and has too much longstanding institutional rot to ever truly emerge from its own corner.FLBear5630 said:I agree. Can't disagree. Only real hope is that the South Korean's are just as astute and are thinking this way. I know for a fact, based on talking to Koreans when in the military and as civilian, that they are not relying on the US to stop the North Koreans. I'm far, far more concerned about North Korea than either China or Russia, especially emboldened as they now are with increased Russian backing (penny for China's thoughts on that too).
And I feel that way simply because NK has nothing to lose. Russia and China want to be global, modern, technocrat societies at the top of a discernible food chain. NK simply wants the toppling of its enemies at whatever cost. Look at a satellite map - it's a technological desert with a hand-to-mouth starvation-level agricultural society out of the 1100's. Their leadership has built hundreds of miles of unknown-to-the-West apocalypse bunkers and has already shown the ability to sacrifice millions of their people in pursuit of their aims.
And if NK launches something at us, our return nuclear ballistic missiles have to travel over Russian airspace to reach Pyongyang. If you think they'll give us the benefit of the doubt on that, I don't know what to tell you.
And apropos to our discussion about mandatory military service, SK is famous for theirs.FLBear5630 said:Can't disagree. I do think that China will go hard military at some point. They have had some skirmishes with India. They need to blood that military before going live. One of the benefits out of Ukraine for Russia is that they can field a battle ready military if their equipment holds up!

What The X-47B Reveals About The Future Of Autonomous Flight (popsci.com)
The US Navy Is Making Plans to Load Its Aircraft Carriers With Drones - Business Insider
I can go on. Just for kicks, attend one of the Autonomous Vehicle conferences in Silicon Valley. There is a civilian side and a military side. I work with civilian Connected technology, on the military side it would be similar to the AWACS and F35 sharing information up and down stream. There are also Autonomous Vehiciles that are controlled by an Soldier, Airman, Sailor or Marine. And the real scary stuff, the AI soldier/robot, planes and on/under water craft. The people designing and controlling them would not have to even pass a PT test to do their job...![]()
To laugh at this is foolish, this is where it is going. China is a big proponent. They do not believe they have to invade the US, just use an area denial strategy and keep the US out of where they want to attack. Drone delivered mines, etc... The submersibles we are seeing them in Port security.
This sounds like pre-WW1 talk.
It assumes the enemy isn't doing the same countermeasures.
Both sides will be knocking the other out until there will be actual people fighting and dying on the front.
WW1, Germany and axis went all in on submarines, chemical weapons and the military-industrial complex. That took the killing to a level never seen. Once again the allies played catchup.
Now, we are hearing that China is going all in on space, automated and AI. Will the US and allies play catchup?
The conversation was that the next war won't be won with fit, infantry it will be won by people behind a keyboard that may not be able to pass a PT test. The military needs new skill sets and the attitude that anyone that is not in a foxhole isn't really a soldier is ridiculous on the modern battlefield everyone is in the firing line. Past wars did not have the tech to let Automated play a role to any real extend, cruise missiles maybe? But, whoever goes all in on the latest innovations will have the edge and that is not necessarily fit you infantry...
For what it's worth, in that scenario NK would be handled by a multitude of cruise and ballistic missile subs currently in the Pacific theater. Each one could eradicate the country with a fraction of their armaments. Not to mention their current missile tech is still easily defeated by our air defense systems.parch said:China has a large military but they have not used it overtly pursue almost any global aim of theirs, including (for now) the Taiwan issue. Will be 44 years on the 18th of this month.
Gorgeous, smart, loyal and a devout Catholic.
Just finished another one of her wonderful meals. Still can't believe anyone would willingly make me dinner for 44 years.
I am very lucky .
We may disagree on some items, but congrats on 44 years. That takes work, it just doesn't happen. We need more people being committed to each other and working through problems not walking away. Now, whether or not you look like a fitness model????

Amazing how the West is adopting authoritarianism before our eyes.
You are such an ass. We all know you think you are rich but still humble, have sired progeny which are rich, but the interesting thing is a woman stayed with you that long. I hope you treat her like the saint she is, but I doubt it.
Dummy
I say what I mean.
20 million is the junior leagues for the 'rich ' title' and I don't have even that. But we live very comfortably.
FYI there are hundreds of BU alumni that ARE rich. Even a few around this message board. 20 million to them is pocket change .

Trust me, my wife deserves all the credit. She is the key to maintaining our entire family .
Agriculture requires 60-70 hour weeks.
Residential construction only slightly less.
And whenever possible I was traveling throughout the US and around the world.
