Russia knows they can't win a military, nuclear, or economic war against us so they use our freedoms against us to influence our population and sow division amongst us. We of course do this against them as well, but as the Russian and Chinese governments have much more control over what media gets to their populations it is not as effective.
They do this by flooding our social media sites with bots to dictate the pro-Russian talking points under the guise of normal everyday red-blooded American accounts. They hire popular pundits on both sides of the political spectrum to spout their propaganda. They undermine our faith in our institutions and convince us that our true enemy is our government, our intelligence organizations, our military, the Republicans, the Democrats, and finally our neighbors.
I can assure you those divisions existed long before the Russian Federation was around or Putin was in control.
And they will continue to exist if the Russian Federation collapses tomorrow or when Putin inevitably dies in a few years. (he is in his 70s)
The divisions in American life have DEEP roots....economic, political, cultural, ethno-racial, and religious.
Its taken us decades to get here....and the divisions will go on for decades more.
Regardless of some Russian meme farms and internet trolls.
