"The Secret Service is responding to a shooting near Donald Trump as he left his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida, according to law enforcement sources.

"President Trump is safe following gunshots in his vicinity. No further details at this time," Trump spokesman Steven Cheung said Sunday afternoon."

"Around 1:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon, while the president was playing the fifth hole, a man was able to push the muzzle of his gun through a chain link fence.

Secret Service spotted the man and fired shots at him. The gunman was 300 to 500 yards away from Trump, authorities said.

The man was able to get way, but was later stopped by authorities and arrested.

He was found with two backpacks and a GoPro camera.

The rifle was recovered from the bushes outside the golf course.

Trump was unharmed. The FBI said the incident "appears to be an attempted assassination."
